The Lord of the Rings trilogy is still on sale for Prime Day
Update (July 12): Unfortunately, Tuesday’s Prime Day deal on the 4K Blu-ray box set of the Lord of the Rings trilogy is no longer available. The pack is still discounted from its regular price of $89.99, but sales aren’t quite as good – it’s marked down to $68.55 (24% off) instead of $39.99.
For Day 2 of Prime Day, Amazon is still offering deals on the remastered Blu-ray versions of the trilogy, which will be released in 2021 (and are based on the 2020 4K remaster). Unlike the 4K Blu-ray pack – which includes both the theatrical and extended editions of the trilogy – the Blu-ray release split the editions, forcing buyers to decide which version they wanted.
The theatrical edition of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy on Blu-ray retails for $11.99 (usually $18.19). The extended version is available for $28.49 (usually $40.87).
Prime Day 2023 also offers plenty of other great DVD and Blu-ray deals, along with discounts on streaming subscriptions like Max and Paramount Plus.
Original Story: You don’t just watch Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings film trilogy. You carefully decide which movie to watch, you use the biggest screen you have, you snack on it and you use the highest quality source, the better you can soak up every detail of these movies that still look fantastic , 20 years on.
So one could do much worse than boast The Lord of the Rings trilogy on 4K Blu-ray for $39.99 this Amazon Prime Day, a massive $50 discount from its original $89.99 price tag.
If you’re equipped for 4K Blu-ray playback – and if you own a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X, you are – this latest edition of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy box set is a must-buy. You get far better fidelity than on any streaming platform, and a choice of the original theatrical versions or the extended cuts – all 12 hours – to watch, plus extras, spanning no fewer than nine discs.
The films need no introduction for Polygon readers, but if you need something to read while you wait for your box set, we have a wealth of Lord of the Rings content, including this unforgettable collection of promo photos for the release of the first film in 2001 , this piece on Arwen’s lipstick, this dissection of the hugely influential Gollum performance, this treatise on hot hobbits, and so much more.
