Underwhelming games come and go, but it’s pretty unique when the developers apologize the same week a game debuts. That happened Friday when Daedalic Entertainment, the developers behind the maligned Lord of the Rings: Gollumposted a statement on Twitter to apologize for the game’s many technical issues.
“We would like to offer our sincerest apologies for the disappointing experience many of you have had Lord of the Rings: Gollum upon release,” the statement read. “We deeply acknowledge and deeply regret that the game did not live up to the expectations we had set for ourselves or our dedicated community. Our sincere apologies for any disappointment this has caused.”
The statement further highlights how much the studio values feedback from the game’s players before promising upcoming patches that will “enable you to fully enjoy the game”. (The studio has already released a day one patch for Gollum.) It’s a very oddly worded statement, but at least the feeling behind it seems genuine.
Lord of the Rings: Gollum is available to play on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
