The Latest: Republicans gear up for their convention as Dems struggle over Biden as nominee

Republicans are preparing for their party convention next week, while Democrats are still undecided about whether President Joe Biden should remain their nominee in the November election.

In a sign of how important Pennsylvania is to both parties, Vice President Kamala Harrisformer president Donald Trump and first lady Jill Biden are all campaigning in the state on Saturday.

Since President Joe Biden’s poor debate performance, Democrats have been wrestling with whether to continue him as their presumptive nominee. Biden has vowed to continue in the race.

He is expected to meet virtually with members of the two largest Democratic factions on Capitol Hill as he looks to rebuild momentum for his re-election campaign, even as the number of Democrats call for his resignation is increasing.

Facebook has lifted restrictions imposed by former President Donald Trump after the January 6 attack.

This puts Trump on an equal footing with President Joe Biden on the podium.

The social media giant initially banned Trump from using its platforms in 2021 after his supporters stormed the Capitol, but later relaxed the ban and imposed some restrictions on him.

Now they are gone too.

The company said Friday that the restrictions were put in place under the “extreme and extraordinary circumstances” of the attack on the Capitol. Trump had done nothing to circumvent them, and the company believes people should be able to hear from presidential candidates “on the same basis,” Clegg said.
