Furious audience members on The Late Show criticized Prince Harry for not appearing in front of his regularly scheduled audience.

Disappointed fans of the CBS talk show were visibly irritated when the host told them the 38-year-old Duke of Sussex was not going to appear in front of them.

One said out loud, ‘you’re serious’ after Stephen Colbert apologized to the audience for not telling them Harry wouldn’t be attending before stating it was for security reasons.

Much of the audience had traveled to the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City from across the state to see the royals, with one woman telling DailyMail.com it was “not worth it” to wait in the cold.

The Late Show host Stephen Colbert apologized to audience members at the end of the show for not telling them that Harry would not be appearing, before blaming security reasons.

Harry’s memoir is published today and his interview with Colbert will air tonight. Much of the audience had traveled to the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City from across the state to see the royals.

The recording of the program, which will be broadcast tonight at 11:30 p.m., usually lasts two hours, including a warm-up act.

But those hoping to see Harry were left disappointed and taken aback when Colbert ended the show an hour earlier than announced.

One told DailyMail.com: ‘Security issues? Really? It’s not like he’s Prince William or anything, he’s not quite aligned with the throat.

Who is trying to kill Harry? I have been to many of these and this has never happened. I’m really surprised.

Another was heard calling out ‘f***Prince Harry’ as they were leaving the show, and others questioned why filming had wrapped so early.

Others said the filming was “not worth waiting an hour in the cold for,” with one woman adding: “Who needs Prince Harry anyway?

The Duke enjoyed a glass of tequila alongside Colbert as the pair recorded their conversation, where he criticized claims that he had “bragged off” that he had killed members of the Taliban.

Harry left his Manhattan hotel on Monday and headed to tape an episode of The Stephen Colbert Show, accompanied by a security guard armed with a Glock pistol.

Another was heard calling out ‘f***Prince Harry’ as they were leaving the show, and others questioned why filming had wrapped so early.

‘They are creating their own drama now just for the sake of it.

‘If it’s about your family and your safety, why are you doing the interview in the first place?’

Harry is currently in the midst of a media blitz to promote his memoir, for which he was reportedly paid a $20 million advance.

Its publishers also claimed that Spare became the UK’s best-selling non-fiction book on the day of its release.

Theater staff insisted it had been filmed with a live audience, with a preview clip released by CBS showing Harry referencing work with veterans, before gesturing to the audience.

He even asked if there were any ‘old timers in the house’, which was greeted with cheers.

The Duke of Sussex also enjoyed a cameo with Tom Hanks at the start of the show, with Colbert rolling out a red carpet with trumpets.

The prince is seen waving to fans as he left the Late Night studios in New York City on Monday, wearing a different outfit.

Once again, a guard escorted him back to his car as he was leaving the studio, the day before his interview was to air.

Harry’s Armed Guard

The Glock safe carried by Prince Harry’s guard usually contains a pistol and ammunition.

It can be configured for any type of gun.

Unlike the UK, where private armed security is illegal, it is common for security guards to carry firearms in the US.

Harry and Meghan are believed to trust Gavin of Becker and Associates, a private Los Angeles firm that charges up to $8,800 a day.

However, the host told Prince Harry to get out of the way, before bowing to Tom Hanks as the royals showered him with rose petals.

In his opening monologue, Colbert mocked royalty for being the “King of Gingers” adding that the decoration “looked real.”

Before the show ended, he quipped, “Maybe next time we can have the King,” and audience members were shown a clip of an upcoming M. Night Shyamalan skit in the studio.

They were not given a sneak peek of the interview, which CBS has kept secret.

Harry was seen on Monday entering the studio with armed bodyguards and drinking tequila with the presenter before leaving several hours later.

Some fans who attended the live show previously said that Harry answered a series of questions from the late-night host in his Colbert Questionert segment.

The quiz devised by the liberal comedian and TV presenter consists of 15 questions that he says “cover the entire spectrum of human experience.”

It is not known what Harry responded to, but people at the studios managed to film a glimpse of the segment in which Harry was speaking with two shots of tequila in front of him which he then drank.

The interview is just the latest the duke is doing as he works to promote his memoir, Spare, published Tuesday.

Harry was escorted to the Late Night studios on Monday night by a guard carrying a Glock safe, used to carry his gun and ammunition.

The prince has become increasingly concerned for his safety since moving to the United States and has often said he feels vulnerable.

Dressed in a gray suit and a navy blue shirt, Harry stepped out of his truck into the studios to meet Colbert.

The prince was seen earlier Monday leaving his luxury hotel in Manhattan, where rooms start at $400 and go up to $3,500 a night for a suite.

There was no sign of his wife or children, who are believed to be at their home in California.
