Our watch might have ended on House of the Dragon season 2, but there are many more exciting shows to stream on Max this year and next year.
In a new teaser released on the streaming giant following the House of the Dragon Season 2 finale, viewers were treated to a two-minute sizzle reel of highly anticipated series coming over the next 12 months. The key trailer footage is our first look at The last of us season 2 and the following Game of Thrones precursor, A Knight of the Seven Kingdomscurrently filming in Northern Ireland.
If post-apocalyptic or high-fantasy series aren’t your idea of a good time, there are tons of other great series set to debut on Max, aka one of the world’s best streaming services, in the not-too-distant future. The lead is The penguina spin-off of The Batsman that Colin Farrell will reprise his role as Oz Cobb from the acclaimed 2022 film in a gritty and brutal neo-noir crime thriller. The film will be released on Max (US) on September 19 and Sky/Now TV (UK) and Binge (Australia) on September 20.
British and Australian audiences won’t miss any of the aforementioned and soon to be announced HBO-produced series. The last of us‘ second season, A Knight of the Seven Kingdomsand virtually all of the other series shown in the new Max teaser will debut on the aforementioned platforms in those countries, allowing non-US residents to watch these series alongside their American counterparts.
Other shows announced in the trailer that I’ll be keeping an eye on include Season 3 of the critically acclaimed anthology black comedy-drama series The White Lotusthe first official project in James Gunn’s rebooted DC Cinematic Universe (DCU) in Being Commands, It prequel horror series Welcome to DerryAnd Dune: Prophecyanother prequel series set hundreds of years before the events of the Denis Villeneuve-directed Dune movies.
When is The Last of Us season 2 coming out on Max?
Unfortunately we still don’t know when The last of us will return to our screens. Filming is still underway on the award-winning TV adaptation of Naughty Dog’s wildly popular video game series, but a new document about the Directors Guild of Canada According to the website, filming will be completed on August 21st. If that is the case and there are no issues with post-production, I predict that we will see one of the best Max series return sometime in early 2025.
Other big budget shows including A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, The White Lotus season 3, and Welcome to Derry also have no official launch dates. According to Max Sizzle Reel’s teaser, this trio won’t be hitting the streaming platform until 2025 either, so you and I have a long wait ahead of us to get our fix of high fantasy, comedic melodrama, and supernatural horror.
Still, with DCU Chapter One’s Being Commandsthe return of his animated brother in Harley Quinna two-part documentary about The Sopranos‘ creation, and much more, there are plenty of options for TV lovers to enjoy between now and the end of 2024. I’ll definitely be watching as many of them as I can.
