The John Wick TV spin-off reveals an intriguing new take on young Charon from The Continental
The Continentalthe first spin-off project set in the John Wick universe, is almost ready to be released – and TechRadar has an exclusive new image to share from the highly anticipated TV show.
The prequel series will be released in September on Prime Video and Peacock. The Continental will chart the rise of Winston Scott (played by Colin Woodell), who takes ownership of the titular hotel chain’s New York branch in the 1970s.
With the show’s preceding events in the John Wick movies, fans shouldn’t expect Keanu Reeves’ iconic assassin to see a cameo The Continental. A character who is Charon, the mysterious concierge of the New York Continental hotel, who was played by the late Lance Reddick in the John Wick universe. The younger version of Charon is played by Ayomide Adegun in the TV prequel, and TechRadar can exclusively reveal a new image of the character, which you can check out below:
The image is certainly a curious one. Is Charon spying on someone for Cormac, the ruthless owner of the Continental hotel who will be portrayed by Mel Gibson – also controversial given his anti-Semitic remarks? Could Charon be keeping an eye on Winston, or is he just visiting another supporting character in their room to give them a message?
At the moment it’s hard to say. But if we’ve learned anything about Charon from the film series, it won’t be long before he changes his allegiance to Winston and helps the latter gain control of Cormac’s The Continental hotel.
Speaking of the burden he felt taking on the role of Charon after Reddick’s death in March 2023 – ahead of the actors’ strike, which began on July 14 – Adegun said (via an Prime Video Press Release): “Lance Reddick’s performance definitely inspired me. I think he was a great guy and actor. I tried to see it from two perspectives. confident that my interpretation of the character will align with Lance’s portrayal.”
Expanding on what viewers will learn about Charon in The Continentaladded Adegun, “Charon grew up in Nigeria with his father, and he doesn’t come from a rich background at all. He comes from a rich Nigerian culture, which is based on respect and loyalty. I think he chooses The High Table to better are his life. It’s just the search for stability and a better quality of life – I feel like that’s always in the back of his mind.”
