The Invincible Creator may be teasing an Omni-Man redemption arc in Season 2 and beyond

Invincible season 2 could plant the seeds for an Omni-Man redemption story, according to the showrunner.

Speak with Entertainment weekly (EW), Robert Kirkman, creator of Invincible‘s graphic novel series and co-showrunner of Prime Video’s TV adaptation, teased what fans can expect from the show’s highly anticipated next episode.

As part of that conversation, Kirkman emphasized Omni-Man’s importance to Earth, and how his — spoiler alert — desertion from the planet will be explored in “terrifying” detail in Invincible season 2 and future episodes of the series.

Viewers will remember that, in InvincibleIn the season 1 finale, Omni-Man left Earth in tears after realizing he couldn’t kill his son, aka Mark Grayson/Invincible. That was after Mark learned why his father had crash-landed on Earth in the first place: Omni-Man had been sent as an infiltrator of the Viltrum Empire, which planned to conquer the planet when the time was right.

With Omni-Man gone and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes – the adult version of the Guardians of the Globe – all dead at Omni-Man’s hands (except for the Immortal), the only things left standing are the likes of Invincible and other teenage heroes. in the Viltrumites’ way. And that, as Kirkman suggests, is a horrifying prospect as we enter Season 2 of the hugely popular Amazon show.

“Omni-Man is gone and he couldn’t be more important to the survival of Earth,” Kirkman explained. “I think people should at least be aware of the fact that Omni-Man not only became a threat at the end of the first season, but he also revealed a greater threat within the Viltrumites themselves. come into play in Season 2, and Omni-Man isn’t there to defend Earth, especially from his own people. That will be a terrifying prospect that will linger for a long time in the series.’

A chance to make things right

Okay, Kirkman doesn’t explicitly state that Omni-Man will be looking for redemption next season in the R-rated animated series. But since he decided not to kill Mark and summon the Viltrum Empire to conquer Earth in the season 1 finale, he’s not entirely evil. Consider him a morally complex individual who has strayed from the path of good, along the lines of Star WarsDarth Vader, and you get a better sense of the kind of character he is.

We’re not going to spoil anything about the graphic novels here, so you won’t find out where Omni-Man went or how the rest of his series-spanning journey plays out in this article. But rest assured, we’ll be seeing more of Mark’s dad again soon in one of Prime Video’s best shows. The first official trailer for Invincible after all, season 2 teased the return of Omni-Man. And with the second season debuting on Friday, November 3, it will be part of Prime Video’s late 2023 lineup, which has convinced me to cancel my Netflix subscription.

That’s not all we’ve learned about Season 2 in the past nine months. Another great one Walking dead star joined Invincible‘s cast in January, plus the Invincible franchise celebrated its 20th anniversary with a perfect birthday gift based on a teaser trailer. Oh, and for anyone suffering from Invincible withdrawal symptoms, a one-off special focusing on main character Atom Eve is now available to stream on Prime Video, aka one of the world’s best streaming services.
