The incredible referee’s transcript which lays bare football’s lack of respect for officials: Nottingham Forest coach ‘called ref a **** at least three times’ in f-word tirade

Nottingham Forest and Steven Reid have been sanctioned following an incident against Liverpool on March 2, with a referee’s report detailing the harrowing words addressed to official Paul Tierney.

A statement released by the FA on Wednesday confirmed that the club admitted that ‘its players and technical area users did not behave inappropriately after the final whistle’ after the FA laid charges at the start of this month.

Reid, first-team coach at Forest, was shown a red card by referee Tierney after the full-time whistle, with Darwin Nunez scoring a winner for the Reds in the 99th minute.

The goal came in controversial fashion, with Tierney giving the ball to Liverpool instead of Forest after a restart caused by Ibrahima Konate going down in the penalty area with a head injury.

Unsavory scenes followed the final whistle, and an independent regulatory commission has now sanctioned both sides.

A £75,000 fine was imposed following a hearing after the events, although the club rejected reports that their owner Evangelos Marinakis had to be restrained after chasing Tierney through the tunnel, but said he did approach the official.

Reid admitted that his language towards a match official was abusive and insulting, but denied that he acted in an inappropriate manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting language towards a match official after being sent off.

The independent Regulatory Commission deemed the second charge against Reid, who made almost 400 appearances as a player for the likes of Millwall and Blackburn, proven and he was handed an extended two-match ban and a £5,000 fine.

Tierney detailed the stunning allegations in his match report of the match, writing: ‘After the final whistle I was surrounded by members of the Nottingham Forrest substitutes and backroom staff on the playing field. One of those who approached me was Steven Reid (a coach from Nottingham Forest) who was not on the team sheet.

‘He asked me about a decision and I told him I will speak to him inside and not outside on the playing field. He then continued to question me and I repeated that I would talk to him inside. Then he said, “It’s the same every week, you ****.”

‘I showed him the red card and then he said: ‘I worked with you every bloody week last season. It’s the same every damn week, you ****.” He then continued to use the word f*** and called me a **** at least one more time (making a total of at least three) as we left the playing field.”

Assistant referee Scott Ledger said in emails to the FA: ‘After the final whistle, as we were leaving the field of play, we were approached by Nottingham Forest coach Steven Reid. Reid made several comments about our integrity as a group of officials.

‘Reid made a comment calling Paul a “****” at least three times. Even after he received the red card, he continued to make comments about the PGMOL, referring to the group of referees who were against his club.’

Reid will now be unable to take his place on the sidelines for his side’s games against Crystal Palace and Fulham at the City Ground in the Premier League.

Forest are locked in a relegation battle after being deducted four points for breaching the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability (PSR) rules.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are currently 18th in the table, one point behind Luton in 17th with nine games left to play.
