The inconvenient truth about nuclear power that got a teenager BLOCKED by beloved ABC boffin Dr Karl
A nuclear-loving teenager has been blocked by one of the ABC’s leading scientists after he suggested the doctor had his facts wrong.
Nuclear for Australia founder Will Shackel, 18, revealed he was treated by Dr. Karl Kruszelnicki on X was blocked after the two rowed about nuclear power on Thursday.
Will said the only thing he had done to upset Dr. Karl was to point out that California’s energy supply was not 100 percent renewable, as the professor had claimed.
The teen shared a screenshot of the blocked message that appeared when he opened Dr.’s profile. Karl searched the social media site to prove his claims.
“So I just got blocked by Dr Karl,” he wrote on Friday.
“All I’ve done is point out that California is not 100 percent renewables.
“It has a nuclear power plant called Diablo Canyon Power Plant, which provides about 10 percent of their energy.
“I find it concerning that pointing out a simple fact would justify blocking an 18-year-old.”

Dr. Karl shared a nuclear study from California that claimed the state used 100 percent renewable energy sources for 98 days

Dr. Karl blocked Will after he responded to a tweet from the doctor, which quoted an article praising California’s energy policies.
Dr. Karl had shared a new message study published in the journal Renewable Energy claim that California was 100 percent renewable over a 98-day period by the end of 2024.
“No power outages occurred when electricity supply from wind-water-solar exceeded 100 percent of demand on the state’s main grid for a record 98 of 116 days from late winter to early summer 2024, with an average (maximum) of 4.84 (10.1) hours per day,” he quoted.
Will responded by asking ‘what happened’ to the energy generated by the Diablo Canyon Power Plant at that time, but instead of getting an answer, the teen found himself blocked.
The power plant is located about 205 miles (336 km) south of Los Angeles and is currently fighting to have its permits renewed.
Will said he was “quite shocked, to be honest” by Dr. Karl’s decision to immediately cut off communication.
“I just accepted the fact that the nuclear power plant exists and that, in my opinion, it certainly supplied energy to California,” Will told Daily Mail Australia.
“I didn’t think Dr. Carl would care about me, and at first the comment didn’t get much attention.
“And then I found out he had blocked me and of course I shared it on Twitter because I thought it was quite shocking that this highly respected scientist would block an 18-year-old teenager like that.”

Will told Daily Mail Australia he was ‘shocked’ when he found himself on Dr. Karl stood
Will said he was “very disappointed” that a scientist he had once respected would choose to block him rather than respond to his question.
“You know, Dr. Karl is trying to talk to my generation about science and other things, and I obviously respected his previous work,” he told the publication.
“So that’s why I was really, really disappointed in him.”
While it is unclear exactly how much of California’s energy supply came from the Diablo Canyon Power Plant during the study period, Will said he saw the plant in operation during a visit to the site in July 2024.
‘I saw it with my own eyes. “I went there and witnessed it while it was operating,” he continued.
Will’s tweet revealing that Dr. Karl blocked him, prompting many of his followers to share their own screenshots, proving he wasn’t alone.
“I just asked if he was paid by the government to spread a story,” one user replied with a screenshot of himself, showing that he had been blocked by Dr. Karl.
‘Me, too. Within seconds of my first response to one of his messages, a second commented with another screenshot of the blocked page.
When asked what he told Dr. Karl would say if he were given the chance, Will revealed that he would beg him to “open his mind to all forms of energy.”
“If he were standing in front of me, I would tell him to open up to nuclear energy and support our work to lift a ban on nuclear energy,” Will said.
“We need all clean energy options to decarbonize our society.”
Daily Mail Australia contacted Dr. Karl for comments.
