The Inbetweeners is set for a shock comeback as show star Joe Thomas reveals talks for a reboot are underway and ALL of the main cast are involved

Inbetweeners could be making a comeback to the big screen, as one of the show’s lead actors has revealed that talks are underway for a reboot.

Joe Thomas, 40, who played Simon in the hit coming-of-age comedy, said all the leads are prepared to reunite 10 years after the last film.

The actor suggested that another film was more likely than a new TV series and that he would follow the group of boys when they were not in school.

In an interview with the podcast Always Be Comedy, Joe was asked if there have been any conversations about a comeback. He said:Yes, it has happened in different forms. We all enjoy doing it.’

He said he is still good friends with the cast, which includes James Buckley (Jay), Simon Bird (Will) and Blake Harrison (Neil), and admitted they are concerned about whether the series will be “as good” as the original series.

He suggested “one of the ideas” for a revival, including a bachelor party in Vegas.

The four boys also sometimes played mini-football instead of in the common room of the school.

But Joe admitted: ‘Everyone’s fear would be, ‘Will it be as good? ‘ That’s where we would start.’

The comedy, which also starred Emily Atack as Charlotte, ran for three seasons between 2008 and 2010, but it was the two films in 2011 and 2014 that made The Inbetweeners so popular.

Inbetweeners 2, which saw the foursome travel to Australia, broke the first film’s box office record by grossing £2.75 million on its opening day.

Joe continued, “We’re all still here, we’re all still in each other’s lives. We all still like each other. And if something were to happen, I think we’d want to do it.

‘I feel like we still like each other very much.

‘We’ve all had a few monkeys off our backs, in terms of things we felt we had to do, outside of The Inbetweeners, to prove something to ourselves.’

Joe met his wife Hannah Tointon on the show over 15 years ago and the couple have since welcomed their first child.

Hannah and Joe met after she played the role of Simon’s girlfriend Tara in the third season of Inbetweeners.

Joe confirmed in 2010 that they were in a relationship, but admitted he was surprised at the way their relationship blossomed after their scenes together on the series.

He said, “I can’t really imagine how those scenes were romantic because they were all scenes where she threw up in my mouth… but I like that, so of course it was fine!”

“It’s pretty intense being on set, so maybe that contributes to it, but we don’t base our relationship on Simon and Tara’s relationship on the show.”

In 2018, the couple starred together in the summer comedy The Festival. Joe told Christine Bleakley on ITV’s Lorraine that he was thrilled to be playing with his fiancée again, eight years after they first worked together.

He joked, “I went on stage like she does in everything, and it went really well, I think!”
