The Idol’s premiere amasses 3.6M viewers in first week
The debut of The Idol draws 3.6 million viewers in its first week, attracting a younger, larger audience than the Euphoria premiere
An estimated 913,000 people initially tuned in to the controversial June 4 premiere of HBO’s The Idol, but the debut has now surpassed 3.6 million viewers in its first week across platforms.
The first episode – titled ‘Pop Tarts & Rat Tales’ – of The Weeknd, Sam Levinson and Reza Fahim’s five-episode sexually explicit drama surpassed number of viewers for the first episodes of Euphoria (3.3 million in 2019) and The White Lotus (3 million in 2021).
Levinson also happens to be the creator of Euphoria, and The Idol viewers follow a full 21 years younger than those who tuned in to the Emmy award-winning Zendaya vehicle — according to Nielsen’s numbers.
A big draw for the Zoomers streaming is undoubtedly BLACKPINK’s Jennie Kim, who made her acting debut (under the stage name Jennie Ruby Jane) as troubled pop star Jocelyn’s (Lily-Rose Depp) backup dancer Dyanne.
And in episode two – titled ‘Double Fantasy’ – Dyanne is already on the verge of becoming Jocelyn’s replacement in her career and love life with secret cult leader Tedros (The Weeknd aka Abel Tesfaye).
