‘Sleazy… Disturbing… Torture porn’: NOLA OJOMU reveals the controversy plaguing Max’s new series The Idol amid backlash over graphic sex scenes and graphic nudity
The Idol is the explosive new drama series about Max that network executives hope will be the ‘next Eupohria’ – and the biggest hit of the summer.
Like the popular HBO drama show, the program has creator and director Sam Levinson at the helm and promises to feature many of the sex, drug and unnecessary scenes he’s become known for.
However, reports suggest that Levinson may have gone too far with his new project.
Initially, all signs pointed to the drama – which promises to tell the “slappiest love story in all of Hollywood” – would instantly grab the attention of TV fans and pop culture aficionados thanks to an all-star casting that included Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis’s daughter. , Lily-Rose Depp and The Weeknd – Abel Tesfaye.
But in a bombshell reveal released by Rolling Stone, whistleblowers stated that the show’s sex scene resembled “sexual torture porn” and criticized Levinson’s creative leadership.
Meanwhile, critics were relentless in their assessment of the first few episodes, with many labeling the projects “disturbing” and “toxic.”
