The idea of a hotel room on wheels may sound like a concept from the latest science fiction blockbuster.
But it could soon become a reality, if the latest concept is anything to go by.
Researchers at Xoio want to make long, boring car journeys a thing of the past with the ‘Swift Pod’.
The futuristic concept vehicle features a large sleeping pod where two travelers can nap while being transported along the way.
And if you fancy a midnight snack, you don’t have to stop at the services: the car will even provide snacks and drinks!

The Swift Pod is based on the simple idea of traveling long distances at a ‘reasonable speed’ during sleep.
“We’ve always been fascinated by night trains and the nostalgic magic of the idea of waking up at your destination after a (fairly) refreshing sleep,” Xoio explains in a blog post.
The vehicle has a futuristic triangular design.
“We chose to stick with the iconic triangular shape to emphasize how little would be needed to achieve a sustainable means of transport for long distances,” the team said.
Two single beds provide sleeping space for two travelers.
While traveling, passengers can choose to sit upright or lie down in the ‘comfortable’ bed.

If you are not in a big hurry, you can also include stops for breaks. “The Pod system offers a range of constantly updated, attractive locations to choose from,” Xoio added
“Together with an extensive media system, small snacks and drinks are part of the experiences,” Xoio said.
Passengers could order a vehicle online and enter their desired destination and time.
A navigation system then autonomously calculates the required speed to reach the desired destination on time.
“It’s amazing how far you can travel at environmentally friendly speeds at night, especially when traffic is light,” Xoio said.
If you are not in a big hurry, you can also include stops for breaks.
“The Pod system offers a range of constantly updated, attractive locations to choose from,” Xoio added.
Unfortunately, the Swift Pod is still a concept and it remains unclear when, or even if, it will become a reality.
