The Holiday fans share terrifying theory about Jude Law’s character in the Christmas favourite
Fans have come up with a terrifying theory about one of Britain's best-loved Christmas films.
Chilling may not be the first word that comes to mind when you think of The Holiday of Jude Law's character Graham, but the alternate storyline that fans have assembled may keep you awake at night.
The Holiday is a typical festive rom-com, in which chronically unhappy love Amanda (Cameron Diaz) plans a house swap in a cute country house in Great Britain.
The picturesque house is owned by another woman who is also doomed in love: Iris (Kate Winslet) – who happens to be Graham's brother.
While Iris feels at home in Amanda's luxurious home in Los Angeles, on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, Amanda feels she has made a big mistake and wants to return home the day after her arrival.
Fans have pieced together a chilling conspiracy theory about Graham (played by Jude Law, pictured) in The Holiday
In the festive rom-com, Graham meets Amanda (played by Cameron Diaz, pictured), a woman unlucky in love who swaps homes with his sister Iris
Later that evening, Iris's brother, Graham, arrives at the cottage drunk, looking for a place to stay.
After the couple becomes romantically entangled, Amanda decides to stay in the quaint village for a while.
In a romantic sequence of events, Graham falls in love with Amanda, and she turns her back on her flight back to America, choosing to spend New Year's Eve with Graham and his daughters.
While many are using the feel-good rom-com to make themselves feel better about the gloomy and cold winter months, others have a different take on the film.
A Reddit user shared their own bizarre and baffling theory about the cheerful rom-com, which paints Graham in a murderous light.
They shared their conspiracy theory with the social media platform, stating that they believe Graham actually killed his first wife so he could inherit her house.
They continued to explain that this is why they think his sister, Iris, is participating in the home exchange – to find out if Amanda has enough money to be “worth seducing.”
The user also added that the couple is trying to decipher how little family and romantic ties she has, and how easy it would be to get rid of her.
But some fans are convinced there's more to the film than meets the eye, as one Reddit user believes Graham killed his ex-wife so he could inherit her house.
They explain: 'Kate (Iris) is so happy to see how grand and luxurious Cameron's house is because she knows she and Jude have hit the jackpot.
Meanwhile, Jude (Graham) carefully arranges a “chance” meeting and manipulates Cameron (Amanda) into building a relationship and getting his claws into her. Everything that follows is orchestrated to carry out their plot.”
Others weren't entirely convinced of the conspiracy, with one person writing: 'More details and evidence to back this up would be great. I like it.'
“Sounds a lot like Crimson Peak,” to which someone replied, “But with more scarves and tastefully decorated kitchens.”
Last year, Kate Winslet closed down claiming a sequel to hit 2006 film The Holiday is in the works – after claims the original cast would reunite for a new film.
Fans panicked after it was reported stars Cameron50, Judas, 49, Kate47, and Jack Black, 53, were all on board for the sequel.
But Kate, who played journalist Iris in the rom-com, spoke up People: 'I've read something about that, but it's the first I've heard of it.
“I promise you that no agent or representative or anyone from the first circle has had a conversation with me about that. Hand on heart, that was never discussed.'
Writer and director Nancy Meyers also took to Instagram to debunk rumors of a sequel, writing: So many DMs about this – sorry but it's not true.'
