The handy Pixel Screenshots app is about to get even more useful: here’s what’s coming
- APK teardown reveals possible updates for Google’s Pixel Screenshots app
- New features include new app shortcuts and image scanning capabilities
- It has not been confirmed when or even if these features will be released
Google’s Pixel Screenshots app, which offers a dedicated gallery and AI search for (you guessed it) screenshots, is set to receive some major improvements in an upcoming update.
Upcoming additions include two new shortcuts and a new home screen layout, as well as the ability to copy and contact email addresses and phone numbers from a screenshot.
That is according to Android Authoritywho have published a new APK teardown looking at the code and features of the next update to the Screenshots app.
For reference, APK here stands for Android Package, the file type used to deliver apps, games, functional software, and updates for all three on Android devices.
Pixel Screenshots: Upcoming New Features
The most notable new feature is the subtly redesigned home screen of the Pixel Screenshots app, which has changed from a list of gallery display options to simply displaying the gallery with a toggle to change the display type.
There also appears to be a new gesture enabled, allowing users to long press and swipe over a group of screenshots to select multiple images. The teardown also shows that users may be able to rename collections.
As for the new shortcuts, they refer to the features available by long pressing the app icon on the phone’s home screen or app drawer.
The two shortcuts that seem to be coming are “Gallery” and “Camera”, which will allow users to access and add their screenshots with even less hassle.
Additionally, the Screenshots app will apparently allow users to copy, contact, and save email addresses or phone numbers from images – this seems like a logical addition to the current crop of AI tools in Pixel Screenshots, but this hasn’t been confirmed yet .
Please note that this is not yet a planned or deployed update, so some or all of these features may change before release or not reach users at all.
