The government is considering incentives for heavy-duty electric trucks to reduce the number of diesel vehicles

The Center is considering incentives for heavy-duty electric trucks to help the mining, steel and cement industries transition from carbon dioxide-emitting heavy commercial vehicles (HCVs) to diesel.

The government is holding consultations between various ministries to assess the demand and feasibility of such incentives, senior officials told Business Standard.

“We are examining the feasibility and whether subsidy is required,” said a senior official familiar with the development.

The proposal has been discussed with the government’s chief scientific advisor (PSA). In addition to the PSA, the Ministries of Mines, Steel, Heavy Industry and Coal will submit their recommendations.
