Some Idaho cities have seen population increases of as much as 50 percent since the pandemic.

Although Idaho is among the states with the smallest total population, it also has one of the fastest growth rates in the country.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Idaho was the state with the fourth fastest growing population in 2023. In July of that year, the state had 1,964,726 residents.

Interestingly enough, the small town of Ponderay, Idaho has experienced remarkable population growth. Between 2020 to 2023, the city on the shores of Lake Pend Oreille saw its population increase by 51 percent, 660 new residents welcomed.

This growth positions Ponderay as a fast-growing “gateway” community, just steps from Sandpoint and the renowned Schweitzer Ski Area.
