The Google Pixel Watch 3 XL leak points to major design changes β and there’s good news and bad news
Two days after renders for the Pixel Watch 3 surfaced online, another leak has emerged revealing its sister device: the Pixel Watch 3 XL.
This appears to be the rumored large 45mm smartwatch that Google has been working on behind the scenes. If you look at the images given Android Heads According to industry insider OnLeaks, it looks similar to the Pixel Watch 2. You have the same round glass covering the watch face and a digital crown with a single button on the right side. It’s only when you look at the dimensions that things start to differ.
The article claims that the Pixel Watch 3 XL’s display will be 1.45 inches wide, larger than the alleged 1.2-inch panel of the Pixel Watch 3. Furthermore, it is said that the second model will measure 45 x 45 x 13.89 mm to measure. That’s about a full millimeter thicker than the Pixel Watch 2, as indicated by 9To5Google.
It is unknown why the technology giant opts for larger wearables; the same design update is also reportedly happening on the standard model. Online theories suggest this is because the Pixel Watch 3 series will feature a larger battery and new sensors. As a result, the devices need the extra space.
Design changes
Now we get potentially bad news. According to the leak, βthe Pixel Watch 3 XL will come with a larger strap mounting systemβ as it is significantly larger than its counterpart.
Not only does this mean that the bands between the two models are not interchangeable, but you also can no longer use your old Pixel Watch 2 bands. They don’t fit.
Aside from the possible sizing issue, there isn’t much information about the XL tires. The renderings are nothing more than possible designs. They appear to present a white (or ‘porcelain’ as the report calls it) active band.
Initial online reactions have been mostly positive, although we did see one comment hoping the Pixel Watch 3 XL will come with sapphire crystal glass to protect against scratches.
There’s still a lot we don’t know about the wearable or its models. However, all these leaks coming out in a short period of time could indicate an upcoming release of the series.
