The Google Pixel 9 could get one of the coolest features of Apple Intelligence before an iPhone does
Google is apparently planning to unveil the Google Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold at its upcoming Made by Google launch event, and we’re now hearing that all four phones could launch with an iOS 18-style software feature set.
According to Google tipster Dylan Roussel (via X), the Pixel 9 series introduces Call Notes, a new AI-powered tool that lets you record and transcribe phone calls. Roussel doesn’t mention call summarization in his X-post, but since the Pixel 8 Pro can already record, transcribe, and summarize real conversations via its Recorder app, we think it’s likely Call Notes will bring the same three capabilities to phone calls.
Interestingly, iOS 18 will bring similar functionality to compatible iPhones later this year, though Apple has confirmed that AI-powered conversation summary will be limited to the top-end iPhones — namely the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 16 series — as part of the company’s Apple Intelligence suite.

In other words, Pixel 9 owners could be able to take advantage of a key Apple Intelligence feature before iPhone users have a chance to try it out. Additionally, with Apple Intelligence reportedly delayed until iOS 18.1, the Pixel 9 and its siblings could continue to offer phone call transcription and summarization as exclusive features even after the initial launch of the iPhone 16 series.
By the way, owners of the top-tier Samsung phones have had access to a built-in call recording tool since Android 9, but there’s still no native way to transcribe and summarize phone calls on Galaxy devices.
Whether Google will bring these rumored Call Notes features to previous-generation Pixel devices is a likely possibility, we think. But only after the Pixel 9 series gets to use Call Notes as a limited-time exclusive.
