The Full Monty gang reunites 25 years after the release of the beloved movie as a trailer for the new Disney+

“This will be the best comeback!” The Full Monty gang reunites 25 years after the release of the beloved movie as a trailer for the new Disney+

Fans of The Full Monty are getting some reassuring nostalgia now that the trailer for the new series has been released.

The original cast of the beloved 1997 film has reunited for the sequel series that takes place 25 years after the film and follows the gang as they continue to navigate the post-industrial city of Sheffield.

Written by the film’s screenwriter Simon Beaufoy, the show charts what happened to the group after they put their gear back on.

Gaz, Robert Carlyle’s character, will deal with fatherhood as he tries to connect with his daughter in the trailer.

The pair sit together on a hill as he tells her, “We haven’t seen each other that much in a while, maybe to make up for lost time, huh?”

Gaz also gets into a fight with Dave (Mark Eddy) after he criticizes him for being an absent father.

Gaz tells him, ‘Who the hell are you to give parenting advice? You don’t even have children.’

It is also hinted that the gang might take off their gear one more time, as Gaz is heard saying in the voiceover, “This is going to be the biggest comeback.”

The Full Monty was released in 1997 to critical acclaim. For a time it was the highest-grossing film in the UK until it was later outsold by Titanic.

The film follows a group of unemployed men in 1990s Sheffield who decide to form a male striptease act in an attempt to make some money.

The episodes explore the brighter, crazier and more humane way forward where communal effort can still triumph over adversity.

The show is directed by Andrew Chaplin and Catherine Morshead and co-written by Alice Nutter with Simon Lewis as series producer.

One actor who won’t be returning is Hugo Speer, who was suspended from the show after allegedly inviting a woman into his trailer while completely naked during filming.

The actor, who played Guy in the film, had his contract terminated with “immediate” effect after he allegedly beckoned a runner in his 20s to enter his caravan with no clothes on, according to The Sun.

He has denied the allegations, with his spokesperson telling ET, “Hugo denies all allegations and challenges them all.”

The Sun reported that the shocked woman reported Hugo’s actions to bosses, who immediately took action.

It is said that Hugo was previously warned to walk around naked in his caravan before finally getting the ax after allegedly inviting a woman.

A Disney+ representative told MailOnline: “We were recently made aware of allegations of inappropriate behavior by Hugo Speer on the set of a commissioned production. As is policy, an investigation has been launched.

“Upon completion, it has been decided to terminate his contract with immediate effect.”

The Full Monty will be released on Disney+ on June 14.
