The five dirtiest cities in America are run by Democratic mayors, according to a new study.

grass startera lawn care company with locations across the country, compared pollution levels, living conditions, infrastructure, and consumer satisfaction in 152 of America’s largest cities, excluding those for which there were not enough public data.

He found that Houston, Texas, was the dirtiest city in the country, followed by Newark, New Jersey; San Bernardino, Calif.; Detroit, Mich.; and Jersey City, NJ. Detroit was also previously named the most stressful city.

All of those cities are led by Democratic mayors, while the city ranked the cleanest, Virginia Beach, Virginia, is led by a Republican.

For the study, LawnStarter measured each city in four categories: Pollution, which measures things like air quality and greenhouse gas emissions, living conditions, such as the percentage of homes with mold or rats, and the number of people without household in the city, infrastructure, such as the number of landfills, and consumer satisfaction: the percentage of residents who find the city dirty.

He found that Houston, led by Democratic mayor Sylvester Turner, was the dirtiest.

The city ranked third in the nation for pollution, fourth worst for living conditions, 15th worst for infrastructure, and 34th worst for consumer satisfaction.

It also ranks third in greenhouse gas emissions from large industrial facilities and has the biggest cockroach problem, the study says, citing data from the US Census Bureau.

Median household income in the city is around $56,000, according to the Census Bureau, but 19.5 percent of the population lives in poverty.

Part of the problem, according to an analysis of the Houston Chronicleis a tax incentive whereby municipal property taxes generated each year are set aside to be spent only on an entire area.

As a result, the Chronicle reports, the city traps public funds in stable or prosperous communities, while needier areas are left with paltry funds.

And to deal with a growing homeless population, the city implemented a “housing first practice” last year that moves people directly from the streets to apartments without first requiring them to give up drugs, complete a 12 steps or find a job, depending on the New York Times.

“Despite these conditions, Houstonians are still more satisfied with the cleanliness of their city compared to residents of 33 other large cities,” the study concluded.

How LawnStarter Determined the Dirtiest Cities in America

The lawn care company collected publicly available data and grouped those factors into four categories: Pollution, Living Conditions, Infrastructure, and Consumer Satisfaction.

It then calculated weighted scores for each city in each category and averaged the scores.

LawnStarter then removed 48 cities that lacked sufficient data for a fair comparison, resulting in a final sample size of 152 cities.

Houston was followed in the study by Newark, New Jersey, led by Mayor Ras Baraka, who has campaigned on a platform of police reform.

Baraka has recently accepted his label as ‘woke’. after facing criticism from Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for offering a controversial course in African-American history.

“I have no problem being woken up because the opposite is being asleep,” he said, according to the report. Washington Examiner.

‘To truly understand the complexities of our nation, students must be able to learn about all facets of American history,’ added the mayor. “The study of African-American history is an integral part of a child’s education, ensuring that they learn a full picture of what makes America America.”

Newark is now the third worst city in consumer satisfaction and ranked fifth in poor living conditions.

Meanwhile, San Bernardino, led by Mayor Helen Tran, ranked as the third-dirtiest city, taking the number one spot for worst pollution and worst consumer satisfaction.

It was demoted in this year’s study, after placing fourth last year.
