The Finals has improved its skill-based matchmaking ‘to ensure better-quality games’
A new hotfix for The finale has been released, with the aim of improving the game's skill-based matchmaking.
The free-to-play first-person shooter (FPS) got a surprise launch at The Game Awards 2023 on December 7 and has already reached a record high of 242,619 players, according to sources. SteamDB. It is also currently in the top 10 most played games on the platform.
The unique team-based multiplayer game – available on PS5, Xbox Series matchmaking.
“We've made a number of changes to our skill-based matchmaking to ensure better quality games,” Embark explained in a Steam post (via GameRadar+).
“This means matchmaking times will probably be a little longer, but you should get into slightly closer matches.”
This change makes it more likely to pit players of similar skill levels against each other, making competitive games fairer.
Also included in Hotfix 1.2.3 is a fix for a Steam login issue that caused players to receive an incorrect ban message, as well as an update on how replenishments work in Quick Cash and Bank It – a feature that allows players to join a game that has already started.
“This should mean you get replenished less often and when you do get replenished you should have more time left in the match, especially in Bank It mode,” the patch notes say.
The finale completed its open beta in November, reaching 7.5 million players. Embarkation called “an unforgettable week”.
