The final story arc of Demon Slayer will be released as a trilogy of films – and here’s the first look

Demon Hunter: Kimetsu no Yaiba just wrapped up its Hashira Training arc, but the (Mugen) train isn’t slowing down: on the heels of the finale, Crunchyroll that Demon slayerThe next arc of Infinity Castle, will hit theaters as an “epic trilogy of films.” In a press release, Crunchyroll notes that “the three-part feature films represent the final arc and culmination of the hugely popular, award-winning anime shonen series.”

Based on the manga series by Koyoharu Gotoge, published under Shueisha’s Jump Comics, Demon slayer currently consists of 23 volumes that have sold over 150 million copies, a number that has made it one of the most popular anime on the planet. For Crunchyroll, securing the worldwide distribution rights (with the exception of a few Asian territories) to three additional Demon Slayer films are a huge boon; the 2020 film Mugen Train remains the highest-grossing anime film of all time, the highest-grossing Japanese film at the global box office of all time, and the second-highest-grossing anime film in U.S. box office history (grossing $49.5 million, surpassing Mrs Web made in 2024!). Sony’s recent acquisition of the Alamo Drafthouse theater chain, expressly for the purpose of bringing anime films to America, makes the trilogy a major milestone in Crunchyroll’s campaign to be a one-stop shop for all things anime in the U.S.

After training with the Hashira in the previous arc, Demon slayerTanjiro, the film’s main protagonist, heads to Infinity Castle to face Muzan Kibutsuji, the demon king. A teaser for the film trilogy features little footage from any of the Infinity Train films – it’s sparsely animated in general – but it gives fans familiar only with the anime a taste of what’s to come.
