Nearly two decades after The Devil Wears Prada hit the screen, Disney is finally working on a sequel. Desperate fans are demanding that Anne Hathaway return to play her iconic character Andrea “Andy” Sachs.
While the return of the original cast has not yet been confirmed, it is rumored that both Meryl Streep, 75, (Miranda Priestley) and Emily Blunt, 41, (Emily Charlton) will be back.
Disney has also brought on screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, who adapted the original 2006 film from Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel of the same name, via Variety.
The sequel follows Miranda Priestley and her career in the present day, when traditional magazine publishing is in decline.
While fans are thrilled with the news that the popular film is making a comeback, some are saying they want the “original cast or nothing.” Additionally, many are worried about whether Anne, 41, will reprise her beloved character.

Fans of the 2006 hit film reacted on X (formerly Twitter):
“This is either unbelievable or horrible, but if they do this, we want Anne back too.”; “Full cast or nothing.”
‘No Anne Hathaway? But why?’; ‘Where is Anne?’; ‘What’s wrong with Anne?? We need ANNE too.’; ‘Without her??? I’M GONE.’
‘I have mixed feelings about a sequel, knowing there’s no Anne Hathaway in it (for now).’; ‘No Anne Hathaway in Devil Wears Prada sequel…’
In the original chick flick, Anne’s character Andy is an aspiring journalist who graduates from Northwestern University and somehow manages to land a job as a junior personal assistant to Miranda, the editor-in-chief of Runway Magazine.
She tries to use this experience to pave the way for better journalistic opportunities, but finds it difficult to adapt. Yet she proves more than up to the challenge.
The news of a sequel comes just days after a musical adaptation debuted in London’s West End, starring Vanessa Williams as Miranda Priestley and featuring brand new music from Elton John.
She comes into conflict with Charlton, who is known as a top executive at a luxury group, while Priestley tries to get advertising money from that company.

None of the reports mention whether Anne would return as Andrea “Andy” Sachs, or if other supporting characters would return, such as Stanley Tucci, Simon Baker, Adrian Grenier, Gisele Bundchen and Tracie Thoms.
The original film is an adaptation of Weisberger’s novel of the same name, which is loosely based on her time as an assistant to Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.
The film, directed by David Frankel, was a surprise box office hit, grossing $124.7 million in the US and $326.7 million worldwide, despite a budget of only $35 million.
Meryl won a Golden Globe for her role and was also nominated for an Oscar.
Wendy Finerman, who produced the original, will also return to produce, but no director has yet been attached.
There has been talk of a sequel for years. In 2013, Weisberger wrote a sequel novel, Revenge Wears Prada.
However, the stars of the original have all indicated that they are not interested in a sequel to that film adaptation.
Emily and Anne recently interviewed each other for Variety’s Actors on Actors series, with Blunt sharing what a great time they had.
“We just had a great time with that movie. I don’t know if any of us knew it would become what it did. It’s quoted to me every week. It will be the movie that changed my life,” she said.
This happens while Anne is busy filming her upcoming thriller Flowervale Street in Atlanta.
Earlier this year, it was announced that she had been cast to lead the then-untitled project. The official name and release date were announced in March.
Flowervale Street is co-produced and directed by It Follows’ David Robert Mitchell.
The cast of the upcoming science fiction film includes Ewan McGregor, Christian Convery and PJ Byrne.
Production on the film began earlier this year, with Hathaway seen on set filming with McGregor in March.
The logline and details of Flowervale Street are being kept under wraps, so not much is known about the upcoming film at this time, other than that it’s about dinosaurs and set in the ’80s.
According to insiders cited by The Hollywood Reporter, Hathaway and McGregor will play the roles of the parents of a family that battles dinosaurs.
Flowervale Street will premiere in theaters (IMAX) next year on May 16, 2025.
