The curse of Sabrina Carpenter: How pop star’s outfit choices have doomed sports teams around the world

If you’re hoping your team can taste success this year, the best thing you can do is ask Sabrina Carpenter to please not wear your jersey. Otherwise you might be left with Slim Pickins – unless of course this is just one big coincidence.

Just as Drake’s gambling habits have led to the demise of many sports teams, Carpenter’s recent decision to wear sports jerseys has inadvertently cursed the very teams she honors.

Lately, Carpenter has been working late (because she’s a singer) and traveling across the United States and Canada on her “Short n Sweet Tour.”

But as indicated by Shawn Depazthe producer of the hockey podcast “What Chaos!”, Carpenter’s recent attire has spelled doom for the teams she represents.

The latest example comes after a pair of teams suffered notable losses on Wednesday night.

Pop star Sabrina Carpenter’s outfit choices have spelled disaster for some sports teams

Major League Baseball’s Philadelphia Phillies needed a win against the New York Mets to stay alive in the postseason.

Unfortunately for them, they lost that game and were eliminated from the play-offs.

That same evening, the Toronto Maple Leafs opened their NHL season on the road against their hated rivals: the Montreal Canadiens.

Despite 47 shots, the Leafs were eliminated in a 1-0 loss.

What do these two teams have in common? Sabrina Timmerman.

The “Espresso” singer wore a custom Maple Leafs jersey when she performed at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto on September 25.

When she stopped for a hometown show in Philadelphia on October 8, she wore another custom jersey – in support of her hometown Phillies – with the baseball team losing the same night, going 2-1 in the series before ultimately was turned off.

But it’s not just North American sports that have felt the wrath of Ms. Carpenter’s wardrobe.

Over the summer, Carpenter wore an England kit at the Summertime Ball festival at Wembley Stadium on June 16 – the same day the Three Lions defeated Serbia in their European Championship group stage opener.

But England lost in the final of the tournament in a 2-1 heartbreaker to Spain.

Need even more convincing? That same summer, Carpenter was spotted with a friend wearing a then-unreleased Manchester United shirt, which would later be revealed as their goalkeeper kit.

While Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has done quite well for himself this season, the Red Devils have not.

Carpenter finds success – her album went platinum while she was on tour

United currently sit in fourteenth place under manager Erik ten Hag during the international break – the worst start to a Premier League season in the club’s history.

Fans of teams in the remaining 22 cities Carpenter visits on the North American leg of her tour may be hoping she doesn’t wear their jerseys.

Stops include major cities like Chicago, Houston, Denver, Vancouver, Seattle, Phoenix and Los Angeles, as well as college towns like Raleigh, North Carolina and Charlottesville, Virginia.

Carpenter’s 2024 album ‘Short n Sweet’ has spent four weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and is the pop star’s first platinum-certified record.
