The new star of The Crown, Ed McVey, looked exactly like young Prince William when he was first seen on set in central London.

The theater actor, 21, looked dapper in a black blazer, blue shirt and beige trousers as he filmed scenes for series six of the hit Netflix show.

He appeared in high spirits as he left the set in a car with a bag and flowers after his first day of filming.

In addition to Ed, Rufus Kampa, 16, will also play the prince in another phase of his life, portraying his teenage years and showing how he and the royal family dealt with Princess Diana’s death.

Ed co-stars with Meg Bellamy, who has been cast as his on-screen wife, Kate Middleton.

Ed and Meg play the couple during the period when their romance blossomed while studying at St. Andrews University.

While Meg has no official acting credits to her name, both Ed and Rufus have significantly more experience.

Ed, who takes on the Prince in the early 2000s with scenes showing him falling for fellow art history student Kate, graduated from Drama Center London in 2021.

He was an understudy in the play Camp Siegfried, which was shown at the Old Vic in London.

Ed shared his elation at landing the big role, writing on Instagram on Friday, “Ahhhhh the big news is out now!!! Can’t wait to get the chance to play Prince William in #TheCrown in Series 6!!! Meg, Ed and Rufus’ appearances follow on from the season five cast, with a number of familiar names and newer faces taking on the roles of various members of the royal family.

The last two series of The Crown will cover the history of the royal family in the 1990s and 2003, but it’s not yet known which moments will be seen.

It was reported in July that a shift in The Crown’s ending has sparked rumors of a sequel leaving open the possibility of a sequel based on Charles, William and Harry and could even include Megxit.

Showrunner Peter Morgan, 59, has been urged by Netflix bosses to take the royal family’s story further – and now the creators have changed the ending of series 6, The Sun reports.

Season 5 of the Netflix hit aired on November 9, while Season 6 would be the final installment of the Windsors’ story, set to air next year.

Series 6 was originally set to end in 2002, the year the Queen lost both her sister Princess Margaret and her mother – but 2005 is now set to be the new end date.

And this will be with Charles and Camilla’s wedding, “the beginning of an era.”

This last year shift could provide room for a sequel in the story that could delve into Prince Charles and his sons Prince William and Harry.
