When William and Kate returned for their second year at the University of St Andrews, the couple and their two friends opted to live off-campus in a quaint two-story house in the city.

They moved into 13A Hope Street, which was just £100 a week each, with their Etonian housemates Fergus Boyd and Olivia Bleasdale.

The modest home included a small kitchen, where William is said to have tried to impress Kate with his cooking skills.

She had moved to the prestigious Fife university after completing her studies at Eton College in 2001. They graduated in 2005, and William proposed five years later.

In 2007, the couple briefly separated, but reunited soon after, marrying in 2011.

Speaking about their uncontested breakup in their engagement interview, the couple admitted that it was for the best.

William said, “We were both very young, I was in college and we both found ourselves and were different characters and stuff.”

“It was a lot trying to find our own way and we were growing up.”

While Meg doesn’t have official acting credits to her name, Ed is much more experienced; he graduated from the Drama Center London in 2021 and was an understudy in the play Camp Siegfried, which played at London’s Old Vic.

Meg had never acted before and applied for the role after earning an A* in drama for her A levels at St Crispin’s School in Wokingham, Berkshire.

Previously, he had only been in school productions and had a part-time job at Legoland in nearby Windsor.

It comes after Prince Edward and his wife Sophie were spotted in St Andrews yesterday, where filming is currently taking place.

In a video taken by Adam Thomson, the royal couple can be seen casually walking near the set. Adam told FEMAIL that the couple were so low-key that he didn’t realize who he was looking at at first.

He explained: “We saw them turn the corner, and it was kind of a surprise because at first we thought they were actors, but then we realized they were actually [Edward and Sophie].’

And while pictures of the set and cast were shared, very few seemed to catch a glimpse of Edward and Sophie, now the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, as they casually walked around the grounds.

Fans are eagerly awaiting the release of The Crown’s final series later this year, and the show is already stirring controversy as it plans to depict the tragic death of Princess Diana.

Imelda Staunton will reprise her role as Queen Elizabeth II, with Jonathan Pryce playing her husband, Prince Philip.

Elizabeth Debicki will reappear as Princess Diana in the build-up to her death, while Dominic West plays Prince Charles.

Many argued that filming the scenes leading up to Princess Diana’s death in Paris was insensitive, as well as the series continuing its launch shortly after the queen’s death in September last year.

Focusing heavily on the fallout between Princess Diana, played by Debicki, and King Charles (then Prince of Wales) played by West, the new series showcased a number of low points for the royals.

Among them were the breakdown of Charles and Diana’s marriage, the controversial Panorama interview of the late royal and the notorious ‘tampongate’ phone call between the King and Queen Consort, later Camilla.

Acting royal Dame Judi Dench, who is close to King Charles and Camilla, accused the show of being “crude and hurtful”.
