A winding road in Pennsylvania is said to be haunted by the ghosts of children and a couple who died in a tragic accident in the 19th century.

It’s called Mystery Mile and supernatural enthusiasts believe it has all the hallmarks of a cursed area.

The Ohioville area has a small population, a cemetery at the end of it, and a nuclear power plant nearby.

“They are the most democratic of all haunted places,” says Tom White, archivist and curator of special collections at Duquesne University. Penn Live.

“You don’t need any special permission to be there; you can go to a road as long as you don’t do anything disruptive or as long as it is not a private road, which very few of these are [legends] ever be.

‘You can be there and it is a place where people can easily come.’

There have been countless stories of paranormal interactions on Mystery Mile over the years.

“There have been a lot of stories over the years – and they go way back,” White said.

It is said that ghosts howl, cult members participate in rituals and animals become dangerous once they cross Mystery Mile.

Kelley Road is believed to be the area in question as there is a cemetery at the end. The entire Wolf Run adjacent to it is also mentioned.

‘In the 1940s they changed direction [Wolf Run]and the [became] a dirt road that branches off,” White added.

“And some people think that the locals originally jokingly called it ‘Mystery Mile’ in the 1940s and early 1950s: that they started a road and never finished it.”

It is believed that the first kilometer of the road causes animals to behave ‘strange or unhinged’ and ‘somewhat violent or aggressive’.

Others claim the area is under a Native American curse or subject to a satanic cult.

White said, “Some people claim it was a curse [Natives] were placed on the land when they were driven out.

“Regardless of what people believe, they always thought something strange was going on.”

He added that people have seen “creepy ghost children” in the area where an “abnormal number of car accidents” are believed to have occurred.

There is another story about a 19th century couple who were riding down the road when their horse spooked and overturned the carriage, killing the woman instantly.

While the man slowly died beneath the wreckage and rumors persist, his voice can still be heard calling for help.

A young girl was playing outside on Wolf Run Road when she disappeared on March 21, 1956. Her body was discovered nearby, but her death remains a mystery.

But she is never mentioned in the discussion of Mystery Mile’s various terrifying encounters.
