The Creator has a very strange intersection with the Russia-Ukraine war

CreatorSome ugly a The Treacherous One director Gareth Edwards takes America’s bravery against war and world intervention in a unique way, showing its human value. The film is filled with anti-war images and messages, but according to Edwards, it also achieved a surprising connection with real life in the midst of filming the war.

In an interview with Polygon, Edwards explained the real-life Russian-Ukrainian conflict, the war of aggression in which Russia invaded Ukraine, and Russia’s attempts to annex Ukrainian territory it owns, interspersed with the film. What’s surprising, though, is the timing, considering who Edwards introduced to the film as me.

Edwards said that during a series of tanks in the middle of the film, extra production was needed who could stand in for American soldiers in the film — not an easy thing to find in Thailand during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We found this expat community of Russian and Ukrainian people,” Edwards said. “They were all working together in the same team of soldiers. And on the same day that the filming of the invasion began, the tank sequence (that) went to Ukraine. And it was really strange. We were watching it on our phones, and then we had to go and shoot this tank sequence with the Ukrainian and Russian guys. “

Thankfully, no conflict was noted between the set. In fact, Edwards thinks this novel is a perfect example of what his film is trying to discuss about war.

“What was really interesting and very interesting, and I think it speaks to what the movie is trying to reveal, is that the Ukrainian and Russian guys are breaking all the gossip between each other and laughing and being very friendly,” Edwards said. “You actually get along with people, you know, you realize we’re all the same.”

Creator is now in theaters.
