The Corrs star Sharon Corr left ‘humiliated’ after claiming Ryanair refused to let her board flight because she was travelling with her violin

Sharon Corr claims she was refused boarding a Ryanair flight to Dublin because she had her violin with her.

The 54-year-old musician from Corrs shared a post on Instagram on Sunday, saying she felt ‘humiliated and crying’ during the incident.

Sharon, who has lived in Madrid since 2018, wrote that she was booked on a Ryanair flight to Dublin, where she was travelling to rehearse for her upcoming tour dates with her sisters and brother.

‘Today I was booked on a @ryanair flight. I got up at 6am. I wasn’t allowed on the flight because I had my violin. I was at the airport for seven hours,” Sharon wrote on Instagram.

‘I had to go back home after looking for my checked luggage. Humiliated, angry and then crying as only a good woman can.’

‘Why did I go to Dublin? My home base, to rehearse, to tour! I am beyond disappointed. Michael O’Leary, shame on you.’

Ryanair states on their website that passengers are allowed to ‘bring any musical equipment on board as long as it fits within the hand luggage allowance’.

‘For smaller musical equipment such as guitars or violins that exceed the dimensions of your hand luggage, you can choose to pay an additional seat fee. For this you have to buy an extra plane ticket and seat.’

‘If your equipment does not fit in your hand luggage allowance and you do not wish to purchase an extra seat, you can choose to check it in for a fee.’

A Ryanair spokesperson told MailOnline: ‘This passenger was not refused travel from Madrid to Dublin (June 30).

‘This passenger’s violin exceeded the carry-on dimensions allowed on her flight and so she had to pay the standard baggage fee to place the violin in the hold of the aircraft.

“This passenger refused to pay the standard fare and chose not to travel on this flight.”

Sharon and The Corrs are busy preparing for their run of live dates this summer, which will see them perform at BST Hyde Park on Sunday in support of Shania Twain, ahead of festival dates in Spain.

Sharon moved to Madrid in 2018 with her lawyer husband Gavin Bonnar and their two children Cal, 18, and Flori, 16.

A year later, Sharon and her husband separated after 18 years together.

Bonnar moved on with Telma Ortiz, the sister of Spain’s Queen Letizia Ortiz, and the couple welcomed a child together in October 2021.

For her recent solo album The Fool & The Scorpion, Sharon wrote lyrics such as ‘the queen’s twisted sister’, which fans suspect were inspired by her children’s new stepmother.

Sharon recently enthusiastically said in an interview with The Sunday Times that she was enjoying her single life.

β€œI’ve been messing around. I’m browsing the buffet, let’s put it that way,” she admitted.

“It’s really nice to be single again and to be out and about again. And you know, a little love and affection can go a long way.”

‘I am very happy now. I just feel so good about myself and that’s something that comes with age.”

She continued, β€œSome friends of mine recently turned 50 and I said, ‘Your 50s are going to be your best years. You just have to pay attention.’
