The console version of Cities: Skylines 2 has been delayed indefinitely

Cities: Skylines 2the sequel to the popular city builder developed by Colossal Order, has been struggling to make a breakthrough. Following a message from the official Cities: Skylines account on publisher Paradox Interactive’s Cities: Skylines 2 forumthe console release for Cities: Skylines 2 has been delayed indefinitely. The game was originally targeted for an Xbox and PlayStation launch sometime in October.

“While we are making slow but steady progress, there are still unresolved issues that impact the game in a way that harms the player experience we aim to deliver. We expect to receive a new (release candidate), which will be thoroughly reviewed in August. This review will determine whether we can begin the submission process and provide a solid release date, or if there are additional issues that need to be addressed,” the message read.

Despite Paradox Interactive publishing multiple downloadable content for the game, Cities: Skylines 2 has been plagued by performance and stability issues since its launch on PC in October 2023, leading to an apology from the developers in April. The rapid cancellation of the Sims competitor Living through you after an indefinite delay doesn’t inspire much confidence in Paradox’s intentions to deliver on this promised release.

Colossal Order has managed to achieve all of the goals set out in the publicly available Year One Roadmap. Skyline 2However, persistent issues and a lack of mod support have kept players clinging to the original Cities: Skylines provisional.
