The Commercial Hotel Rappville shuts after 113 years

A heritage-listed country pub is to close permanently after 113 years in business.

Pubgoers enjoyed a last beer at the on Saturday Commercial Hotel Rappville, approximately 50 miles north of Grafton New South Wales‘Northern Rivers, on Saturday evening.

Publican Lisa Stewart has remained steadfast in her asking price of $975,000 for the site since she put it up for sale several months ago.

However, locals fear the failure to find a buyer could result in the historic pub closing its doors for good.

“We will not sell to anyone who wants to turn the hotel into a home,” Ms. Stewart wrote online.

‘The hotel must be kept operational as a business, in whatever capacity, with an associated permit.

“So please be assured that we will only sell if the hotel remains open to the Village of Rappville and the public.

‘It’s not always about money, but about preserving historic buildings and their life history, stories and purpose.’

There’s more to come.
