The Color Purple second official trailer: Halle Bailey of The Little Mermaid is captivating as young Nettie in movie from Oprah and Steven Spielberg
The second trailer for the much-anticipated film musical version of the beloved classic The Color Purple was released on Tuesday.
The film, which is directed by Blitz Bazavula, has big name producers Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg behind it. The film will be released on December 25, 2023.
And then there’s the impressive cast.
American Idol winner Fantasia Barino reprises her role on Broadway as Sally Harris Johnson with Phylicia Mpasi as young Sally.
Ciara is Nettie Harris. And Halle Bailey, of Little Mermaid fame, captivates as young Nettie.
Taraji P Henson as luscious blues singer Shug Avery steals the show with her charismatic performance.
Also in the film are Danielle Brooks as Sophia, ONA as Mary Agnes (Squeak) and Corey Hawkins as Harpo Johnson.

The film has a checkered past: it’s already been a Pulitzer Prize-winning book, an Oscar-nominated film, and a Tony-winning musical.
On Monday, Warner Bros. shared the first official trailer.
The big budget film is slated to release on Christmas 2023.
The Color Purple follows the painful life of Sally, an African-American teenager who grew up in rural isolation in Georgia.
She is a rebel who knows little about growing up in the South in the early 1900s. She doesn’t want to be a silent victim, so she fights her way through hardships and triumphs in the end.
Sally narrates her life through painfully honest letters to God.
The trailer follows Sally after she is separated from her sister Nettie.

The trailer opens with Nettie talking about Africa and how there are queens on the continent, telling her sibling that this means their family is royalty.
The sisters get along great because they clearly have a strong bond.
They are seen smiling easily while shopping in town on a dirt road. But heartbreak ensues as Celie is forced at gunpoint to leave the property she calls home.
“All I have is my sister, she’s the only one who ever loved me,” Sally says.
Taraji was then seen in a red dress as the inimitable lounge singer Suge Avery. She then pulls up to the estate in a sleek convertible while modeling an ivory outfit.
Her influence on Sally is powerful as she treats her with kindness and smears her with crimson red lipstick during their girly time in the bedroom.

“Oh dear God of love,” Suge says when she sees her friend with lipstick on.
“Sisters are forever,” says the slogan.
Fantasia was then seen singing the song on stage in a black and white floral print dress, giving it her all.
“A bold new take on a beloved classic,” the screen adds at the end of the trailer.
Spielberg’s acclaimed 1985 film, which starred Winfrey as well as Whoopi Goldberg, Danny Glover and Margaret Avery, was a critical and box office hit.
Winfrey received an Oscar nomination for the film.
Now Spielberg is back to produce alongside Winfrey, Scott Sanders and Quincy Jones.
