The Chinese brand Transsion is ringing a bell in the Indian smartphone market

Chinese brand Transsion, which doesn't sell a single mobile phone in its home market but has become a force to be reckoned with in Africa, is quietly making inroads into India and is on the verge of joining the coveted club of the top five smartphone players in terms of volume.

According to data from Counterpoint Research, Shenzhen-based Transsion captured 8.6 percent of the Indian smartphone market in 2023 (CY23).

Three of its brands – Itel, Infinix and Tecno – had a combined share of 6.3 per cent in CY22. It is even approaching Oppo, a Chinese competitor, whose market share is also present in CY23
