The chase descended into chaos on Wednesday night when one contestant made an awkward blunder.
While trying to outrun Darragh ‘The Menace’ Ennie, player Jane stunned the host with her answer to one question, ending up losing £7,000 she had earned in the cashbuilder and failing to reach the final.
Jane, who took part in the show along with three other hopefuls, hoped to answer enough questions correctly to win £7,000 for the prize money and a place in the final.
She started strong with a respectable cash builder and chose to keep what she had earned rather than take the lower offer.
Bradley asked Jane, “The term ‘soft’ comes from a Latin word meaning what?”

Oh dear! While trying to outrun Darragh ‘The Menace’ Ennie, player Jane stunned the presenter with her answer to one question, eventually losing her £7,000
The answers to choose from were sweet, sour or salty.
But Jane chose the wrong answer by selecting acid, leaving host Bradley stunned.
Bradley joked, “It’s a Latin word meaning sweet.”
Bradley threw up his hands and walked away from the table, shaking his head.
He added, “This is hard to bear after all that work.”
In the end, Jane was caught by Darragh and missed out on a place in the final.
During the episode, Ed struggled with the cashbuilder and only managed to get three questions right.
Kirsten was also caught in the chase, leaving only Matthew to duke it out in the finals, but unfortunately he struggled to answer enough questions correctly and lost the money he had earned.

It comes after The Chase viewers were distracted last week when they saw a royal connection between the four contestants.
The ITV game show, fronted by Bradley Walsh, welcomed players Henry, Liz, Tudor and Mary in hopes of defeating the pursuer and walking home with some cash.
But avid viewers noticed an amusing connection between the names of the players and the British royal family.
Host Bradley didn’t seem to notice the very regal quartet of names, each with the name of a former monarch.
A viewer took to Twitter to point out the link, writing: “So #TheChase tonight on #ITV is laughing. Find the connection in the names!’
Can you see it? It comes after The Chase viewers were distracted last week when they saw a royal connection between the four contestants
From Henry VII to Mary I and Elizabeth II, each name has a very strong royal connection – with fans convinced producers put them together on purpose.
While the team had a strong line of names, their day jobs aren’t quite as regal as the monarchy.
Mary is a 49-year-old children’s nurse from Wigan, Henry, 70, a retired insurance expert from Essex, Liz, 28, an operations coordinator from Stockport and Tudor, 57, a data migration specialist from Kent.
One fan wrote on social media, “Royal event today,” while another agreed, “Can’t get over this lineup on #thechase very 16th century.”
A third tweeted, noting Bradley’s lack of attention, “Brad never noticed the connection between the names?”
The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
