The Chase Australia’s ‘Smiling Assassin’ spotted heading into court for murder trial in Sydney

She is known for killing the hopes of contestants on The Chase Australia with her forensic trivia skills.

And Mara Lejins was spotted on Tuesday heading to court to appear in a murder case.

“She looks like the lead character from Legally Blonde, but don’t judge a book by its cover,” 7News anchor Angela Cox said in a report Tuesday.

‘She’s actually a lawyer acting for the Public Prosecution Service in a Sydney court. And judging by the quiz show, she’s a formidable opponent.’

In addition to her role at Chase Australia, Mara is currently a Public Prosecutor at the Public Prosecution Service, a role she took up in 2023.

Her impressive resume also shows that she works as a federal prosecutor for the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions.

The trivia expert also earned a Master of Laws degree from Columbia University in 2023, graduating with highest honors and the Parker Certificate in International and Comparative Law.

She also holds a Bachelor of International Relations/Bachelor of Laws and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Australian National University.

Mara made an awkward TV blunder in 2023 when she made an unfortunate joke about poisoned food.

She joked that she had put her boyfriend in the hospital because of her bad cooking skills.

Although the episode was filmed weeks ago, its release came at an unfortunate time, following the much-publicised mushroom poisoning case in Victoria.

Mara made the unfortunate comment on the Channel Seven programme when she was up against a contestant who loves to cook.

“I’m also a great chef and when my boyfriend gets out of the hospital he’ll definitely support me. I didn’t do it!” she laughed.

Mara posted on Instagram the next day to address the awkward blunder.

Mara shared a screenshot of a news report about the situation, saying the faux pas happened before the mushroom incident

“I promise this episode was filmed before the Death Cap debacle,” she wrote.
