The central government workforce is likely to decline by almost 50,000 by 2025
The workforce in central government departments, excluding Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSEs), is expected to decline by around 50,000 employees by March 2025.
According to the latest interim budget documents, total expenditure on wages and allowances is expected to rise 6.9 percent to Rs 3.2 trillion in the 2024-2025 financial year.
The interim budget documents for FY25 show that the central government workforce is expected to peak at 3.51 million in 2024, a growth of 12 percent over the previous year.
The expected decrease of 1.4 percent for 2025 is caused by a decrease of 5.6 percent (72,000)
