The Block’s Steph and Gian Ottavio mocked by judges for providing totally ‘useless’ beige nursery: ‘This is next level’
Steph and Gian Ottavio got off to a rocky start on Sunday’s premiere episode of the new season of The Block.
The childhood sweethearts were commissioned to design a children’s room themed around the character Buzz Lightyear from the Toy Story movies.
But the couple threw the bright, cartoonish brief out the window, creating a beige room with heavy wood furniture.
Judge Shaynna Blaze was shocked when she looked around the room and called a rope ladder the pair installed “just useless.”
“The fact that you don’t listen to the order, what are you putting before us? I mean, it’s not even a nursery,’ she said.

Also unimpressed, Judge Neale Whittaker agreed: “The brief was to create a nursery.
“If they thought they were going to take a chance and show the judges that they’re sophisticated and mature, we’d walk in and be amazed. FAILURE’.
Inspecting a heavy chest of drawers, he added sarcastically, “I mean, every kid’s dream, sure.”
“It’s not even a nursery,” he added.

Host Scott Cam addressed the couple, who indeed looked disappointed, and gave them a dressing.
‘We have seen participants forget an assignment before and then do what they want. But this is next level,” he said of the jurors’ comments.
In the end, the married architect and entry-level employee finished last on the ranking with a low 14 out of 30.
