The Block’s Scott Cam reveals shock twist for this year’s contestants in season premiere

Scott Cam has revealed that this year’s The Block contestants will have a tough time during Monday night’s premiere.

The presenter of the renovation program surprised the Blockheads with a terrible surprise: they are going camping on the construction site.

While this usually happens during the first few nights, Scott revealed that the teams won’t be stopping the rough living just yet.

In previous seasons, contestants started by building a bedroom in their home so they had a space to stay in while they worked on the rest of the house.

This season, however, the first space the Blockheads have to build is the main bathroom, meaning all five teams will be camping in tents on the grounds during the first week of competition.

The tents for the participants were assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

One lucky couple managed to get a spacious six-person tent, while another had a cramped two-person tent that they could barely sit upright in.

In a preview of scenes airing later this week, Western Australian carpenter Jesse has a breakdown in his tent on his second day, feeling completely overwhelmed by the task ahead of him, while his fiancée Paige tries to comfort him.

Scott revealed that the contestants on recent seasons have less perseverance than they did 20 years ago when the show started.

“The candidates are less resilient than they were 20 years ago, 15 years ago,” Cam said news.com.au last week.

The current series of The Block was filmed earlier this year on the popular tourist attraction Phillip Island in Victoria.

Ny Breaking Australia reports that a Channel Nine company has purchased Island Cove Villas on the Victorian island for a whopping $9.5 million.

The site is a two and a half hour drive from Melbourne and currently comprises nine homes, a communal swimming pool, barbecue pavilion, tennis court and children’s playground.

The Block continues Tuesday at 7.30pm on Channel Nine
