The Block’s Maddy and Charlotte break silence on co-stars’ ‘cruel’ behaviour as fans rally around them

Block newcomers Maddy and Charlotte have broken their silence about the ‘bullying’ they received from fellow contestants on the show.

The Sydney sisters entered the heated 20th season of the renovation competition earlier this month after husband and wife team Paige Beechey and Jesse Maguire threw down their tools.

The engaged couple, that series were called ‘villains’ officially called off their wedding in December, following speculation that their engagement was in trouble.

Maddy, 24, and Charlotte, 22, quickly emerged as strong contenders but found targets on their backs even faster after revelations emerged about their professional house-flipping experience.

The cast accused the favorite sisters of “lying” about their experience level.

This latest melodrama, which overshadows the renovation portion of the renovation series, has some fans of The Block in danger of switching en masse.

Host Scott Cam declared the sisters the winners of the week during Sunday night’s episode, and things blew up when team Kylie and Brad refused to clap.

Speak with Yahoo lifestyle On Tuesday, Maddy said she found it difficult to watch the season because of how she and her sister were treated by the other contestants. She said reliving the experience was “triggering.”

“Sunday night’s episode really upset me,” Maddy told the publication.

‘I thought, ‘I can’t watch this.’

“These people are cruel to us and I don’t really understand why.”

In the episode, the sisters’ guest bathrooms reveal impressed judges.

However, the pair’s competitors were less than impressed, calling the room “safe” and “vanilla.”

Rivals Kylie and Brad Baker were furious, even going so far as to offer no applause when the duo won the challenge.

It wasn’t just Kylie and Brad who were unimpressed, with Haydn saying of the bathroom: ‘The colors are… quite vanilla’

However, the final montage also showed Kylie and Brad telling the cameras that the competition was “rigged” because the sisters were “the most hated people on The Block.”

“We didn’t do anything to them to deserve that behavior,” Maddy continued as she broke her silence this week after the events aired.

“We strive to be kind to people in all circumstances, and then to have someone who just blatantly chooses to be unsupportive and unfriendly is just not a nice feeling at all.

“We were just supportive at the time [Kylie and Brad] won the week before. It was their anniversary and I said to Kylie, “I’m so excited you won, how perfect it is your anniversary dinner!”.

“We weren’t bitter, we congratulated them, we were excited for them, we celebrated. And so it’s disappointing not to get that back considering they’re much older than us and have four kids. Actually you just expect more from every person.’

Maddy also noted that entering the competition late, and being the youngest competitors, it felt like they were ‘the new kid at school’.

While her sister Charlotte told Yahoo she still didn’t understand the couple’s animosity.

“Before we even met Kylie, she had already decided she wasn’t going to like the new contestants,” she said.

“She looked us up and down as soon as she saw us.”

Fans of the series appear to agree with the duo, with this week’s online comments overwhelmingly supporting them – while their rivals’ behavior was branded ‘disappointing’, ‘horrific’ and ‘immature’.

“It’s a little awkward to see the other team being so negative about the girls,” one person wrote on Instagram. ‘Heartbreaking to see adults behaving like this after they’ve already decided they don’t like your bathroom. I hope you make a big win.’

‘Why are the girls bullied by the other participants? Not cool,” said another.

‘Beautiful room from a fantastic team,’ added a third. ‘The poor sporting behavior of some other participants, especially those who are parents, is appalling.’

Ny Breaking Australia previously revealed the couple will abruptly quit the Channel Nine series in the coming weeks.

“Kylie had an absolute meltdown at the end of week 12 and stormed off the set,” an insider from the production team said.

“She flat-out refused to continue filming, and the couple didn’t even show up to finish their shared space in week 13.

“I have no idea how the producers are going to handle this on screen or how they are going to edit around it,” they continued.

It comes after another insider dished it outSome of Kylie and Brad’s fights were ‘a tad cringe-worthy’ and ‘immature’, with their attitudes towards each other raising alarms.

“Kylie and Brad will find it quite awkward watching the show again because they really have a unique way of talking to each other,” the source said.

It’s not the first time contestants have quit the ‘cheeky’ reality TV show, but it is the first time they’ve thrown in the towel so late in the build.
