The Block’s Courtney Freeman reveals major career change after controversial second place finish on the hit renovation show

The Block’s Courtney Freeman has revealed a major career change after she and husband Grant controversially finished second on the popular renovation show earlier this year.

The 32-year-old events accountant has just launched a new range of stylish homewares that she has called the Moditerranean Collection.

Courtney shared a video of the products on her brand website Lazy Stylist.

Featured in the collection are a small desk lamp with a marbled shade, stone vases and furniture.

In a new interview with Yahoo lifestyle On Tuesday, Courtney revealed that the collection was a tribute to her experience on The Block.

‘Each piece has a story, named after the people and places that were part of this wild adventure.

‘We used materials such as natural stone and wood that reflect the textures of our Block home.’

Courtney said she started working on the collection right after she and Grant finished filming the reality show.

And now the one-time event accountant is working full-time on the design.

In a quirky move, Courtney has branded one of her new vases the ‘Jules’ – a tribute to the Block’s high-profile producer, Julian Cress.

“He believed in us and gave us this incredible opportunity, so it felt right to honor him in the collection,” she said.

Elsewhere in the chat, Courtney described her “Moditerranean” style, a term she coined when appearing on The Block to describe her renovation approach.

‘For me, Moditerranean is all about merging the timeless charm of Mediterranean design with a fresh, modern twist.

‘But it’s more than a design style; it’s an atmosphere. It’s about creating spaces that are relaxed and full of personality, where you can really feel at home.’

It comes after fans were shocked at the Block auction when Courtney and Grant’s house came second, while sisters Maddy and Charlotte Harry took home the crown and an eye-watering $1.65 million profit.

The nail-biting Block finale was the most profitable auction day in the show’s history after Adrian Portelli, 35, bought all five homes, leaving each team with a share of the $5.43 million in profits.

Courtney and Grant raised $1.35 million in the sale, but the property was a sour win after claims of ‘manipulation’ emerged following the block auction

Billionaire businessman Portelli, who made history when he bought every Block home on Phillip Island for $15.03 million, told Nova’s Jase & Lauren last month that the auction order was predetermined.

‘We have hand-selected the auction order to ensure that the girls [Maddy and Charlotte Harry] went last. So we can let them win,” Adrian began.

The Harry sisters became The Block’s youngest ever auction winners, with their renovated Phillip Island property selling for $3.5 million.

Portelli revealed that it was decided that their house would be the last to be auctioned, adding to the drama.

‘The girls thought it was important. They came in late. They were the underdogs, picked on and bullied,” says Adrian, who has also stated that 2024 was his last year on The Block.

He said Maddy and Charlotte had been informed in advance as to why their properties would be auctioned last, adding that the other participants were left in the dark.

“It was just the girls [who were in on the plan]. How good is that? They are the sweetest and most innocent and played the game the best.”

Maddy and Charlotte also took home another $100,000 for their monumental win in their four-bedroom, three-bathroom home, which had a reserve of $1.85 million.

Meanwhile, Courtney and Grant are now hoping to expand their family, New Idea reported in November.

‘We want to start a family! That was already planned before The Block, but we put it on hold. So we would like to continue to do that,” Courtney told the publication.

She went on to talk about how proud she was of herself and husband of three years, Grant, 30, after their stint on The Block.

‘We had a vision from the start. I don’t regret what we did; I would do it all again tomorrow if I could,” she said.

‘From day one we were convinced that we would always be ourselves: the good, the bad and the ugly.’
