The Block: Scott Cam reveals he doesn’t own the house he is building

>

The Block host Scott Cam has set the record on the house he is building with the participants this year.

The Channel Nine renovation show has suggested that Scott, 59, owns the house and is renovating it with his family in mind – but this isn’t really the case.

The experienced builder explained on The Block’s podcast this week that while he’s spent hundreds of grueling hours transforming the 1866 home from a dilapidated shack into a lavish country retreat, it’s not his to keep.

“One thing I have to point out – and my wife has asked me to point it out – is that we don’t own that house,” he told his co-host Shelley Craft.

‘That’s not our house. Everyone says to my wife, “Are you moving there? When are you going to sell it?” She and I have to explain all the time that [the house] belongs to the network.

‘It’s not my house. I just built it like my house.’

He continued, “Of course my family is based in Sydney, and I built that house for one lucky other person to live in.”

It comes after viewers of The Block were horrified after Scott revealed a unique detail in his own renovation of the show last month.

To give the mansion some flair, he installed giant Southern Cross-shaped skylights on the roof of his barn.

The Southern Cross was an iconic Australian symbol for many years, but of late it has become a divisive emblem and is associated with ‘Boganism’.

It fell out of favor after being linked to the Cronulla riots, with some deeming the symbol racist.

Fans took to social media to share their disgust at Scott’s roof design, calling the look “rough,” “bogan” and “tacky.”

“The only person who wants a Southern Cross skylight is a BLF (Builders’ Laborers Federation) fanatic and most of them don’t have $4 million+,” one person tweeted.

“Scotty, that’s SO fake.”

Many other viewers agreed, and one fan tweeted, “I must say, the southern cross in the barn roof, TACKY AF.”

‘A southern cross skylight. I can’t,” wrote another.

‘Scotty’s southern cross skylights are so dirty,’ said one viewer, while another wrote, ‘ewwwwww southern cross skylights wtffff.’

Even contestants Sharon Johal and Ankur Dogra took a cheeky punch to the design after Scott said the move was inspired by his own Southern Cross tattoo on the back.

“When Scotty told us he had a Southern Cross tattoo to match his skylights, we said ‘of course you do’ because you know, Straya,” they captioned their photo on Instagram.
