The Block: Inside Steph and Gian’s amazing renovation that netted the dream couple more than $1.7 million

Steph and Gian set a new record on The Block on Sunday when their incredible five-bedroom, four-bathroom home in Hampton East went under the hammer for $5 million.

The fan favorites, both 27, ultimately walked away with $1.65 million in winnings and another $100,000 in prize money.

It broke the May 2021 record for the Bayside suburb of $3.1 million.

The couple completely transformed the original classic brick home from the 1950s into an ultra-modern two-storey family home.

With a design inspired by Scandinavian and Japanese influences, the expansive path has vast open space and a luxurious atmosphere.

The finish consists of natural stone, oak floors and walnut wood.

Highlights include a fantastic covered entertainment terrace, a handcrafted sauna with 8 seats and a plunge pool with travertine tiles and ash wood terraces.

There is also an outside ‘sitting room’, with pizza oven and barbecue area with bar.

Other highlights include a generous master bedroom with a sitting room with fireplace, dressing room and enormous bathroom.

The kitchen, meanwhile, features a breakfast bar and butler’s pantry and is adjacent to the living room with a double-sided fireplace.

Meanwhile, there is also a private home office, which can easily be converted into a fifth bedroom, and 8 original works of art created by Australian artists.

Steph and Gian’s House 4 was the first of five homes in East Hampton, 17km from Melbourne’s CBD, to be auctioned during The Block’s grand finale on Sunday.

With a reserve of $3.35 million, the couple feared they would not make any money from the sale.

The bidding quickly reached $4 million thanks to serial bidder Danny Wallace, before skyrocketing $1 million straight to $5 million.

The house was sold to Adrian Portelli, known as ‘Mr Lambo’, who said he wanted to prove he was a real bidder after controversy last season.

Portelli spent $1.58 million on Omar and Oz’s house last year, but broke his record this season.

Steph and Gian’s win also broke last year’s record for Omar and Oz, which was $1,686,666.

Next on the block were sisters Eliza and Liberty with House 5 up for grabs with a reserve of $3.25 million.

The bid reached $4.1 million before finally going under the hammer for $4.3 million, netting the siblings a profit of $1.050 million.

Kristy and Brett’s House 3 had a reserve of $2.97 million and the couple said they were “not calm” going into the auction.

It sold for just over $3 million, with the couple taking home just $65,000.

Kyle and Leslie’s House 1 was next with a reserve of $2.97 million and ultimately sold for $3.1 million after a slow auction.

Leah and Ash were auctioned last, with their House 2 valued at $2.97 million, and were ultimately passed over after failing to sell.
