The Block 2022: Rachel Carr has a meltdown over ‘unfair judging’

The Block’s Rachel Carr has slammed the judges for her team’s unfair placement in the competition, while several other contestants claim the experts are playing favourites.

Rachel and her husband Ryan, both 36, said on Monday’s episode they felt like they were falling behind, despite everyone saying their bathroom was the best.

‘It doesn’t feel fair and this is a competition that should be fair,’ she said.

It wasn’t just Rachel who felt she’d been robbed, as even foremen Keith and Dan had tipped the Carrs to win for their bathroom.

‘Geez, I felt like you guys were pretty stiff not to win – personal opinion,’ Dan said.

‘I reckon that’s one of the best bathrooms I’ve ever seen,’ Keith added.

The judges labelled the bathroom ‘magazine-worthy’ and called it Rachel and Ryan’s ‘best bathroom yet’, but still scored them and 8.5 out of 10, which placed them third.

Rachel suggested the judges were playing favourites due to their money situation looking tight.

‘I’m actually furious. There are people every week who are getting money in the bank and we are busting our ass,’ she ranted.

‘Everyone needs to stop asking about budget because there’s no money coming in for us.’

Meanwhile, fellow contestant Jenny declared, ‘This competition is actually rigged,’ after the teams walked around Tom and Sarah-Jane’s winning rooms and Omar and Oz’s runner-up rooms.

‘The judges did not get it right this week. No way,’ Rachel told the producers.

‘I don’t think they got it right,’ added husband Ryan.

Earlier in the season, The Block host Scott Cam had meted out some tough love which pushed Rachel to breaking point.

Scott, 59, was disappointed to discover she and Ryan had dropped a whopping $1,700 on tiles for a small splashback in their bathroom.

As the pair tried to laugh it off, Scott remained all business and scolded them for their reckless spending, reducing Rachel to tears.

‘You went $12,000 over [budget] on the first bathroom, you clawed back to six – you’re now six in the red,’ he said.

Rachel attempted to make a joke by saying they were doing better than she initially thought, but Scott remained stone-faced.

He said: ‘You shouldn’t be smiling at this, because none of that money’s going into landscaping.

‘You guys have got no money and you haven’t started. You haven’t even asked me a question about [landscaping], you haven’t even thought about it, have you?’

He went on to tell the couple they would have no money left in ‘five or six weeks’ and would ‘be doing nothing’.

Once the cameras were off them, Rachel broke down into tears, saying, ‘I just want to go home… I’m just over it,’ as Ryan comforted her.

Rachel said she felt belittled by Scott, but the two talked it out later in the episode at the dinner hosted by Omar and Oz after she became teary-eyed once more.

Scott told her it was tough love, saying he was so hard on her ‘because I want you to succeed’.
