The Block 2022: Fans spot the real reason two homes didn’t sell

>

The Block viewers have a theory as to why two of this year’s season’s homes failed to sell at auction earlier this month.

A fan of the Channel Nine renovation series recently drove past the completed houses in Gisborne and posted a photo of the view of Reddit.

They pointed out how close the houses were to each other and noted the lack of privacy that was not apparent on the show.

“I posted the photos to get a glimpse of the layout of The Block homes this year as I couldn’t help but look,” the Reddit user wrote.

“Going past you could really see the factors that the participants had no control over that really made selling all these homes difficult.”

Privacy is something you would expect to be included when you pay $4 million for a country retreat, but several Block homes lacked this feature.

Some buildings also had the problem that the other houses obstructed the view of the surrounding countryside.

“It will take a lot of trees and about 10 years for these places to hide the shed and get their privacy,” one fan said on the Reddit post.

Another said: ‘Yes, they will look better with some huge hedges and/or trees in front. It’s just a shame they used a design that should be hidden rather than proudly displayed.’

Someone labeled the new gravel road on which the houses stood as ‘Desolation Row’, while another said it was ‘no wonder no one wanted to buy them’.

Meanwhile, others criticized the ‘shocking’ mix of modern extensions with heritage homes before criticizing their external presentation.

‘They all still look like construction sites and that’s how they went up for auction,’ said one, while another commented, ‘They look ridiculous, tying a modern black cube to the side of a heritage house is just weird.’

“God, the old and the new is shocking. There are no architectural connections at all. How they are $4 million plus is crazy,” one viewer wrote.

Another said, “From a distance, those “modern” additions look like cat puke on that lot and next to the vintage residences.

“I really wish the producers had taken a little extra time and money to design something more harmonious. It probably would have paid off in the end.

Adrian Portelli, who was a bidder on Omar and Oz’s winning house and later bought Sharon and Ankur’s House 3 in a private sale, told New idea the boys’ property had the best view – which may explain why it sold for the highest price.

‘The view from [Oz and Omar’s] place had the best view…you have the pool overlooking that view,” he said.

Jenny and Dylan’s home was passed on, as was Sharon and Ankur’s, though the latter pair secured a private sale less than a week after the auction.

Wednesday morning, Jenny and Dylan have not yet found a buyer.

The homes on The Block went under the hammer with a reserve of $4.08 million.

Sharon and Ankur's home failed to find a buyer at auction, but was later sold to businessman Adrian Portelli for $4.25 million.
