The biggest game announcements and trailers from The Game Awards 2024

An avalanche of new game announcements at The Game Awards 2024, ranging from the returns of classic franchises (Okami, Turok, Virtua Fighter) to the reveals of entirely new worlds (Naughty Dog’s Intergalacticsomething new from Fumito Ueda). For a round-up of everything announced at The Game Awards, including the big world premieres, the smaller surprise game reveals, and just plain fun trailers, we’ve got you covered.

Naughty Dog’s new game Intergalactic: The Heretic Project revealed

The Last of Us and Uncharted developer Naughty Dog returns with an all-new property: Intergalactic: The Heretical Project. Set thousands of years in the future, according to the game’s official description: Intergalactic players take on the role of Jordan A. Mun, “a bounty hunter who ends up on Sempiria – a distant planet whose communications with the outer universe went dark hundreds of years ago. Jordan will have to use all her skills and wits if she hopes to be the first person to leave the job in more than 600 years.” Naughty Dog’s new game, directed by Neil Druckmann, has been in development since 2020.

Elden Ring Nightreign has announced a new co-op multiplayer spin-off

FromSoftware returns to Elden Ring with a new cooperative multiplayer spin-off that isn’t Eldenring 2but something different. Elden Ring Night Reign will be released in 2025 for PlayStation, PC and Xbox platforms.

The Witcher 4, starring Ciri, revealed

CD Projekt Red unveiled the next game in the Witcher franchise, which serves as the start of a new saga for the studio. The Witcher 4 will start Ciri as the lead and… well, just look at the extremely impressive six-minute debut trailer for CD Projekt’s next big title.

Ico and Shadow of the Colossus director Fumito Ueda’s next game teased

The long-awaited next game from game director Fumito Ueda – the creator behind it Icon, Shadow of the ColossusAnd The last guard – has been revealed. The game is currently untitled, but operates under the name Project: Robot. Ueda and his studio Gen Design teased a game featuring a giant mech and a tiny pilot, and what appears to be a global disaster.

Borderlands 4 gets its official first look

The long-awaited new Borderlands game from Gearbox Software received its first real trailer during The Game Awards. Border countries 4 promises to be “the most ambitious Borderlands game ever” when it releases in 2025. According to the game’s official description, players will battle against the Timekeeper, “a ruthless dictator who dominates the masses from above. Now a world-changing catastrophe threatens his perfect Order, unleashing chaos across the planet. Ignite resistance and blast your way through mechanical monsters, bloodthirsty bandits and vicious beasts. Assemble an arsenal of deadly firepower to wreak havoc as you battle your way through Kairos.”

Okami is back, and so is Hideki Kamiya

Capcom is finally making a sequel Okamithe 2006 action-adventure game inspired by The Legend of Zelda and Japanese folklore. As an even bigger surprise, Okami game director Hideki Kamiya – formerly of PlatinumGames – is working on it at a new studio called Clovers, a sequel of sorts to the shuttered Clover Studio.

Pac-Man goes dark in Shadow Labyrinth

If you grabbed Pac-Man’s Secret level episode on Prime Video, get ready for Bandai Namco’s new, darker take on the dot-munching ghost. A 2D action platformer, Shadow Labyrinth is definitely a way out for the character, who will celebrate his 45th anniversary in 2025.

Outer Wilds 2 first gameplay reveal

Obsidian Entertainment offered a bold new take on next year’s sequel The outside worldsand promises “an action-packed adventure in a new colony with an even newer crew and the latest graphics.” The outside worlds 2 will be released in 2025.

Virtua Fighter 6 confirmed

The time has finally come: Sega is releasing a new installment in its Virtua Fighter fighting game series. The new Virtua Fighter comes with some familiar faces, but we’ll have to wait for developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios’ VF Direct 2024 for more details. The extremely prolific RGG Studio also teased another game, Project Centurywhich seems like a violent 20th century twist of the Like A Dragon series.

Capcom is teasing a new Onimusha game

Capcom’s Onimusha samurai action series returns with Onimusha: Away from the sword in 2026. That will be twenty years since the last new main line in the franchise, Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams. The new Onimusha is set in Kyoto during the early Edo period, where the city has been “transformed by the nefarious Malice with monstrous enemies known as Genma prowling the area.”

Shadow the Hedgehog – and presumably Sonic the Hedgehog – get behind the wheel for a new racing game called Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. That’s literally all we know right now.

Mafia: The Old Country gets a new narrative trailer

2K and Hangar 13 offered an expanded look at their new mafia story set in the ruthless underworld of 20th century Sicily in a new narrative trailer for Mafia: the old country. That new entry in the Mafia franchise will arrive in the summer of 2025.

Saber Interactive revealed Turok: Origina brand new entry in the dinosaur battle action shooter series. As Turok warriors, players compete in co-op or single-player battles and collect the DNA of enemies to strengthen themselves “to unravel mysteries that hold the key to saving humanity.” Turok: Origin coming to PS5, Windows PC and Xbox Series

The Illuminati are coming to Helldivers 2

The ancient Illuminate civilization returns in a new update for Hell divers 2. In the new Omens of Tyranny update, Helldivers will protect new colonies, encounter new enemies, ride FRVs and engage in urban warfare on PlayStation 5 and Windows PC.

Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound comes from Blasphemous developers

Koei Tecmo’s Ninja Gaiden franchise returns, but this time as a side-scroller, thanks Blasphemous developer The Game Kitchen and DotEmu. Ninja Gaiden: Furious Ryu sees Hayabusa away in America, and while he is away, Hayabusa Village becomes infested with demons. Young ninja Kenji Mozu takes action to save his and Ryu’s home in the new game Ninja Gaiden, coming summer 2025.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is coming to PC

The second chapter of Square Enix Final fantasy 7 remake project is coming to Windows PC on January 23, 2025.

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is also coming to PC

Bad dog The Last of Us Part 2 coming to Windows PC on April 3, 2025, with graphical improvements, gameplay modes such as the roguelike survival experience No Return and Guitar Free Play, full DualSense controller integration and more, Sony Interactive Entertainment unveiled during The Game Awards.

A new Tekken 8 fighter from the world of Final Fantasy

Tekken 8‘s roster is about to get bigger, with the addition of new DLC fighter Clive Rosfield Final fantasy 16! Twist!! Clive will be playable in Tekken 8 from December 16.

Warren Spector’s stealth game Thick As Thieves announced

From OtherSide Entertainment comes Thick as thievesa new PvPvE stealth action multiplayer game. According to the game’s official description, you will “Chart your development as a master thief in a glittering, brooding 1910s metropolis where industry, magic and intrigue collide. Your choices unlock unique playstyles and strategies that shape your thief character.” Thick as thieves should be in 2026.

A first look at the gameplay of Slay the Spire 2

Mega Crit’s sequel to its roguelike deckbuilder, Kill the spire 2made a welcome appearance at The Game Awards, showcasing the newly developed Spire, new and returning characters, and an arsenal of new cards, relics, and potions.

Dying Light: The Beast gets a new trailer

Techland has unveiled a new trailer for Dying Light: The Beastwith the introduction of a character called the Baron – described as “the greatest threat Kyle Crane has ever faced” – and a summer 2025 release date.

Pugstorm has announced its next game, Kyoraa 2D sandbox adventure for 1-8 players that sends players to “a realm of ruins, where every pixel is a tool to create something new.” Players can mine resources, craft physics wands, battle powerful bosses, and build a base by terraforming the world around them.

Wargaming, the game developer behind World of tanks And World of warshipsexplores heavy metal in a new way with Steel fightersa new free to play mech hero shooter that combines battle royale and extraction shooting mechanics. There is a playtest, which you can register for Steam.

Sifu developers unveil Rematch, a surprising football match

One of the most unexpected reveals during The Game Awards was certainly the next title from Sifu and Absolver developer Sloclap. They make an online multiplayer football football match called Rematchwhich the studio says will “use the lessons learned about precise, dynamic movements from Sloclap’s previous titles,” including Sifu. Rematch coming to consoles and PC in 2025.

Overcooked makers give us stage fright

The cooperative chaos of Overcooked gets a new twist Stage frighta creepy new multiplayer game from developer Ghost Town Games. The developer (and publisher Hello Games!) describes it Stage fright as “a cooperative experience, packed with Overcooked-style chaotic moments and escape room-style collaboration.”

Superhero Workplace Comedy Dispatch Announced

Send is a workplace superhero comedy where choices matter, and the cast is diverse, with Aaron Paul, Jeffrey Wright and Laura Bailey topping the list of voice actors contributing to AdHoc Studio’s original game.

Racing game experts Milestone breathe new life into Screamer

MotoGP developer Milestone is bringing back the Screamer franchise of racing games, which it developed in the early ’90s, when the studio was still known as Grafitti. The new one Screamer gets an anime edge thanks to animation studio Polygon Pictures and the voice of Troy Baker.

The First Berzerker: Khazan gets a release date

Nexon and developer Neople have released a new cinematic trailer for The first berserker: Khazan which was “overseen by the award-winning Russo Brothers,” announcing a March 27, 2025 release date for the action RPG on PS5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
