A cleaner shared the three popular cleaning hacks she would never do and revealed why they don’t work.

kacie who runs The great clean company in Melbourne, said that while many people recommend using baking soda on carpet to clean it or mixing baking soda and vinegar to clear drain clogs and as a spray, she doesn’t think they work.

“I always get hated when I say this because it’s popular forms of cleaning, but thanks, that’s a hard no on my part,” Kacie posted on instagram.

First of all, you shouldn’t use baking soda on your carpet to deodorize odors, because the baking soda won’t suck up and stay in your carpet (pictured)

1. Baking soda on the carpet

The first trick that Kacie said she never follows is to use baking soda on the carpet.

Many people do this to clean and deodorize all types of carpets and rugs.

“The reason I don’t do this is because the particles are too small for your vacuum to fully pick up, so the particles stay attached to your carpet fibers and backing, attract moisture and end up building up odors.” Kacie said.

‘And if your rug is wool? You will end up with weeks and months of unexplained darkening in the future.

Instead of baking soda, it’s much better to use vinegar spray to get rid of odors.

Combine one cup of distilled white vinegar with one cup of warm water in a spray bottle and shake well.

Spray entire mat and allow to air dry. The strong vinegar aroma will neutralize as the mixture dries.

The second thing Kacie said she avoids like the plague is mixing baking soda and vinegar into a solution and using it to unblock a drain (pictured)

2. Baking soda and vinegar to unclog a drain

The second thing Kacie said she avoids like the plague is mixing baking soda and vinegar into a solution and using it to unblock a drain.

“I know people think backlash removes blockages in the drain, but this only works if you can close the drain around each end of the blockage so it’s a controlled environment,” Kacie said.

‘You do not believe me? Try this experiment in a bowl and see how much baking soda remains unless you give the mixture a good stir.

Kacie accompanied her post with a video demonstrating what happens when you mix baking soda and vinegar down an uncovered drain.

“Now you can see why your clog could end up so much worse when you try to do this inside your drain,” Kacie said.

“There’s no point in mixing baking soda and vinegar as they just neutralize each other,” said Kacie (pictured).

3. Baking Soda and Vinegar as a Spray Cleaner

Finally, while many people mix baking soda and vinegar together to make a spray that removes stains and cuts through grease, Kacie said there’s absolutely no point in doing this.

“There’s no point in mixing baking soda and vinegar, as they only neutralize each other,” he said.

It’s basically salt water.

If you want to create a stain-removing spray for your clothes or mattress, you’re much better off mixing a little 3 percent hydrogen peroxide with a little dish soap in a spray bottle.

Next, spray the solution over the area, and then add baking soda, let it sit for 15 minutes, and vacuum.
