The best and worst celebrity fashion at the 2022 Melbourne Cup

Stylish punters and celebrities have flocked to Flemington for the Melbourne Cup this year and while many got the job done, the fashion on the pitch was as slick as the drenched track with many A-listers missing the mark in the birdcage.

One of them was Nadia Fairfax who stepped out in a long-sleeved kimono-inspired outfit that engulfed her tiny body and resembled a bathrobe.

The former gymnast turned fashion blogger paired the short, quirky dress with gold accessories and a nude makeup look as she smiled for the cameras at the Lexus tent Tuesday morning.

Melissa Leong made an early run for worst dressed with this satin suit she paired with a patent leather hat, while Natalie adjusted the carpet in her two-piece suit that resembled that of a retro flight attendant.

Rozalia Russian played it safe in a far from flattering Indiana Jones-esque brown outfit from Effie Kats and matching hat from Lauren J Ritchie Millinery, while the swimming sensation sisters Bronte and Cate Campbell missed the mark in garish figures

Melissa Leong also raised eyebrows with her bold yet edgy look – an oversized satin powersuit in blush with dramatic black cuffs, which she paired with a white button-up shirt.

The MasterChef Australia judge hid her short locks under a 1990s black patent leather hat, with an explosion of pink mesh and flowers from the side to tie it with the rest of the outfit.

Former Miss Universe Tegan Martin opted for an equally risqué look with a Rebecca Vallance mini dress. While the color flattered her features, the uber-short design overwhelmed the style icon’s petit frame and tested the dress code with the length.

The Barbie core-inspired look continued with huge chunky hot pink platform heels, large button earrings, a charming wide-brimmed hat and matching clutch bag.

The dress failed to flatter the blonde’s figure with its huge shoulder puffs and flared sleeves. She wore the dress with her blond locks down at the roots, and cute nude heels that didn’t stand out against the vibrant hue of the frock.

Natalie Hunter also made a wrong turn when dressing for the carnival by choosing to don an oppressive purple skirt suit, with a sharp collar and matching wizard.

The blunt look made the usually well-dressed blonde look like she was ready to help guests to their seats on the next flight from Melbourne, rather than attend the climax of Melbourne’s spring carnival.

Celebrity Stylist Suzy Eskander chose a bold, eye-catching bodycon dress from Loewe that shocked for all the wrong reasons.

The cream-colored dress had hands and arms covering the mother of three’s breasts and groin, earning her a spot next to the worst dressed women of the carnival.

But the show-stopping outfits weren’t all for the wrong reasons — with some A-listers definitely nailing their look on the day.

Among them are the ever-stylish Bec Judd and the glamorous redhead Jules Robinson who both showed exactly how the season’s ‘pop of colour’ trend will work for them.

Bec Judd’s stunning outfit was put together by celebrity stylist Lana Wilkinson with the breathtaking Effie Katz gown that highlighted the incredible figure of the mother of four and was topped off with a showstopper from Stephanie Spencer.

Olivia Molly Rogers also turned heads for all the right reasons with her classic tea-length Oglia Loro Couture dress and a custom headpiece from Ezaraj. The former Miss Universe Australia and mental health advocate completed her look with matching shoes and an oversized floral clutch.

Brooke Jowett looked demure as she stepped out in a gorgeous floral dress that she paired with a lavender headband, white mini bag and matching heels, while Kate Waterhouse narrowly scraped into the pool of best-dressed celebs in head-to-toe Gucci.

The blonde beauty wore a tea-length pink satin dress, showing off her incredible figure, as an accessory with matching shoes and a divine candy-pink mini purse.

The fashion writer threw her hair in a stylish up-do and completed the look with a bejeweled tiara.

Demi Brereton looked stunning in her figure-hugging floral dress from Olgaberg, which she paired with strappy black heels and a signature red glow to the clutch and hat.

While Delta Goodrem beamed as she pulled up along the track in Dolce & Gabbana, paired with black heels and lace gloves.

Amy Pejkovic sported a playful floral number that earned her the title of one of the best dressed trackside, the model wore the short dress over a white long sleeve shirt and added pink pointed heels for a pop of color.

Simone Holtznagel rocked a neon orange Alex Perry creation and matching hat, earning herself a place at the top of fashion on the court.

It wasn’t just the women who turned heads – with some of Australia’s best-loved male celebrities taking the opportunity, for better or for worse.

Former Masterchef favorite Andy Allen shocked in his homey potato suit. He was pictured at the event alongside an old friend and fellow celebrity chef who looked smart in his navy blue suit — paired with a bright, floral tie that was perfectly placed for the spring carnival.
