The Bachelor’s Laura Byrne breaks down in tears as she describes her ‘mum guilt’

Radio star Laura Byrne bursts into tears as she describes her ‘mother guilt’ for leaving her kids at home to go to work – after the lovely toddlers sent her a special Mother’s Day message

Laura Byrne was treated to a special message from her husband and two daughters on Friday that left her in tears.

The former Bachelor star hosted KIIS FM’s The Pick Up with Britt, Laura & Mitch and cried after listening to her girls Lola and Marlie-Mae and husband Matty “J” Johnson wish her a happy Mother’s Day during a surprise segment on the show.

“It makes me really sad because yesterday I went to work and Marlie was crying because she didn’t want me to go, and she acted like mommy isn’t going to work today,” she said after a clip of her daughters saying how much she love her.

“And sometimes when you’re trying to juggle between being a mom and doing all the other stuff, you have to make sacrifices and sometimes that’s really hard and yesterday was one of them.”

Her co-star Brittany Hockley told Laura that her “mom guilt” was understandable and that her daughters appreciate how hard she works.

There were more tears as Matty’s message played, with the former reality star herself in tears during the dedication.

He said, “Laura, it’s your husband here wishing you a very happy Mother’s Day. I always knew you would make a good mother.

“It was never something I doubted. I think I underestimated how much of an exceptional mother you would be.

‘Should I have known? Because in everything you do, you absolutely excel. You are such an overachiever and being a mother is at the top of that list.”

Through tears, he continued, “I can honestly say that the only reason I am the parent I have become is because of you. I see how patient you are, how caring you are, how hesitant you are and how much you love our girls.

“I’m really trying my best to keep up with you, I’m sorry. You are always so lucky to have our little family, but the person we have to thank is you. You are the reason why we are so lucky.

“Lucky to have you as my wife, and Lola and Marlie are lucky to have you as their best friend, their mentor, their cheerleader, and their mother. I love you more than I thought possible. Happy mothersday.’

Laura was deeply moved by the audio and sobbed, “That was so cute. I didn’t expect to cry on my Friday afternoon.”

She added, “I don’t know how I got so lucky. I think sometimes he gives me a few props that I don’t deserve. I am so grateful’.

The couple welcomed daughters Marlie-Mae in 2019 and Lola in February 2021. They got engaged while vacationing in Fiji in April 2018.

The couple, who met on The Bachelor in 2017, got married in November at the beautiful Cupitt’s Estate near Mollymook on the NSW south coast.

“It makes me really sad because yesterday I went to work and Marlie was crying because she didn’t want me to go, and she acted like mommy isn’t going to work today,” she said after a clip of her daughters saying how much she love her
