The Bachelor’s Abbie Chatfield admits the truth behind her ‘I’m a Gemini’ comment
Abbie Chatfield has revealed the truth behind a horrifying viral video from her time on The Bachelor in 2019.
The reality star became a laughingstock after seemingly not understanding Bachelor star Matt Agnew’s profession during their first meeting on the show.
After revealing he was an astrophysicist, the contestant quickly replied, “I’m a Gemini!”, causing Matt to look puzzled.
Abbie then claimed that her comment was a joke and that producers purposely edited the scene to make her look stupid.
But this week, Abbie changed her explanation and told the Back To Reality podcast that her comment was actually part of a flirty conversation that never aired.
Abbie Chatfield has revealed the truth behind a horrifying viral video from her time on The Bachelor in 2019, of her saying “I’m a Gemini,” after Matt Agnew revealed he was an astrophysicist
‘I walked over [Matt] and I go, ‘What are you doing?’ And he says, “I’m an astrophysicist.” And then I literally looked around at the crew and said, ‘I know this isn’t the same thing so we know… [And then I asked Matt] “What’s your zodiac sign?” she recalled.
And then he was like, ‘I’m a Leo,’ and then I said, ‘Oh, I’m a Gemini!’ They had cut out the middle part and were just gone: ‘That’s my answer,'” she added.
To make matters worse, the video went viral for a second time last week after Khloe Kardashian shared it on her social media page.
Abbie then claimed that her comment was a joke and that producers purposely edited the scene to make her look stupid. But this week Abbie changed her explanation by telling the Back To Reality podcast that her comment was actually part of a flirty conversation that never aired
Abbie said she was annoyed about the video being redistributed, admitting that she even jokingly reached out to one of the show’s editors to express her frustrations.
“I texted the person who edited that, and I said… ‘F**k you!’” she said with a mischievous smile.
Abbie’s explanation differs from the one she gave in 2019, when she claimed her “Gemini” comment was actually a joke taken out of context.
Speak against News.com.au in 2019, Abbie said she was “upset and mortified” that Channel 10 had presented her prank in the episode as a genuine misunderstanding.
‘I walked over [Matt] and I go, ‘What are you doing?’ And he says, “I’m an astrophysicist.” And then I literally looked around at the crew and said, ‘I know this isn’t the same thing so we know… [And then I asked Matt] “What’s your zodiac sign?” she recalled
‘[Matt] definitely understood it was a joke,” she explained, making it clear she made the comment to try and break the ice with laughter.
“Obviously there was a lot more going on off camera, and Matt and I had a really good laugh about it at the time.”
Much to Abbie’s dismay, the “Gemini scene” footage was heavily featured in trailers for The Bachelor.
And then he was like, ‘I’m a Leo,’ and then I said, ‘Oh, I’m a Gemini!’ They had cut out the middle part and were just gone: ‘That’s my answer,'” she added
The trailer even went viral in America at the time, drawing 10 million views in just a few days.
Reflecting on her online fame, Abbie told News.com.au, “I was absolutely mortified and I was really upset.”
In conversation with Nova 96.9’s Smallzy’s surgery Matt also maintained at the time that the images had been taken out of context.
“She’s very smart, very witty and she likes to turn me on and that’s something very obvious right there with the joke she landed on the Gemini call,” said Matt.
“I think some of the public opinion on that particular interaction has been taken out of context,” he added.
Matt clarified that Abbie was only joking when she pretended not to know the difference between astrophysics and astrology.
